One of our favourite details in Adam Haddow's Surry Hills home is hiding in plain sight - the rough, characterful bricks in the lower courses are a combination of repurposed surplus from a previous local project, including pieces broken in transit. Krause Emperor Bricks in a vertical bond combine with custom-made curved R300mm Empress bricks to form a rhythmic composition that plays with light and shadow - creating an exterior that is both monumental and delicate.

Set against an incredible mountain backdrop, the home brings together simplicity, performance, and a quiet alpine feel, with subtle nods to classic alpine forms throughout.

After years of hiking and riding around Mount Beauty, our clients found the perfect spot for their forever home.

Together, we designed a calm, resilient home that feels deeply connected to the landscape, with framed views and light-filled spaces that reveal themselves as you move through the house.

Each of our houses has a particular focus making it a unique experience for our clients. This house in Hawthorn is one of our favourites from the archives, using a distinctive mix of handmade bricks to create an ombre’ fade effect across the facade of the houses new extension. Thank you to our Associate Director and team leader Phoenix Wang for her work in delivering this beautiful project.
