LA Opera
Preserving, promoting, and advancing the art of #opera while embodying the diversity, spirit, and artistic sensibility unique to Los Angeles.
There’s always that one guy who can’t take a hint.
Join us this Saturday for Falstaff and watch this walking red flag get hilariously humbled on the LA Opera stage.

Did you know you can play a starring role in bringing opera to Los Angeles?
LA Opera is powered by people like you. As a nonprofit, the hundreds of singers, musicians, and artists who pour their hearts into every performance depend on the generosity of opera lovers in our community — and right now, your support goes further than ever.
Thanks to a generous gift by an anonymous donor, any donation received by June 30 will be matched $2 for every $1 donated (up to $500,000). That means that for a limited time, your gift will have THREE times the impact!
Head to the link in our bio or search for laopera.org/donate and contribute to building more great works in art!

Anthony León (@anthonyleontenor) gives us a glimpse into the passionate poet (and lover) that is Falstaff’s Fenton—bringing warmth, lyricism, and a sense of youthful sincerity to one of the opera’s most tender roles. Last show is this Sunday, May 10th—see his character in action at LA Opera's production of Falstaff!
There is something healing about seeing a family friendly opera at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels (@olacathedral) 🕊️ Tomorrow, LA Opera Connects is proud to present the sold out free community opera, Noah's Flood, with conductor James Conlon (@conlonconductor) leading the orchestra.

Congratulations to Gabriela Lena Frank (@gabrielalenafrank), winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Music! 🎉
LA Opera audiences know her magic firsthand — her opera El último sueño de Frida y Diego brought the house down when we presented it in 2023. Now the world is catching up.
Her Pulitzer-winning work, Picaflor: A Future Myth, is a stunning symphonic journey inspired by Andean legend and our planet's fragile future. We couldn't be prouder to call her a friend of LA Opera. ✨

We knew the answer before Ken Jennings (@whoiskenjennings) even finished reading the clue.
Who else yelled out “Who is Falstaff?” during last night’s @Jeopardy? 👀

…though maybe a little trust got lost today.

“Everyone is creating practical jokes on each other.”
That’s the spirit of The Merry Wives of Windsor — where Falstaff is at the center of it all. We caught up with Ben Donenberg, Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Center of LA (@shakespearecenterla), to talk about Shakespeare’s most lovable fool. Watch the full interview on the LA Opera YouTube channel and see how Ben unpacks the complex Shakespearean character that is Sir John Falstaff!
“I think a lot of people right now are craving a bit of comic relief.”
Sarah Saturnino (@saturninomezzo) couldn’t have said it better — and she gets to deliver it every night on stage. Meet our Meg Page in Verdi’s Falstaff. 🎭
Want to laugh in Los Angeles? Take in a night at the opera! Enjoy Verdi’s comedic masterpiece, Falstaff at LA Opera!
Even the smallest characters in Falstaff come with some fun details.
Meet the Gong Farmer (historically… the person whose job it was to shovel out the privies 💩) and the Cobbler’s Wife, played by real-life couple Todd (@strangetenor) and Courtney (@courtney_r_taylor). Costume designer Adrian Linford (@adrianlinford_design) along with the LA Opera Costume Shop folk packed their looks with thoughtful details—and had a little fun imagining what their lives in Windsor might be like.
It’s one of those tiny production details most audiences would never catch… but we love a good backstage fun fact.
Ernesto Petti (@ernestopetti_) gives us a glimpse into his role as the impulsive and jealous Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff. When asked why he thought Verdi created this comedic opera, after producing so many tragedies, Petti refers to one of the many themes in Falstaff: a light but very deep message that everything in the world is a joke.
Looking for fun things to do in Los Angeles? Come for a laugh and take in Verdi’s Falstaff at LA Opera, now through May 10th!
