I am pleased to share that my pieces, “Solar Return” and “Call and Response” will be part of the group exhibit titled A-139547204. Taking its title from an “alien registration number” —the identification number assigned to non-citizens by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security—the exhibition brings together ten artists whose works explore alienation through forms and atmospheres informed by the visual language of science-fiction aliens. Curated by Maty Sall @matyvs of Rooster/Lion @rooster_lion, the exhibit will be opening on May 12th, 6 to 8pm at 195 Bowery, #2, NY,NY.

A roundtable book discussion with artists Rodney Ewing, William Chan, GOODWYN, Hussein Smko, and Bassim Al-Shaker.

Moderated by Surviving the Long Wars co-editors Aaron Hughes and Amber Zora.

Surviving the Long Wars: Creative Rebellion at the Ends of Empire (Bridge Books, 2024) offers a groundbreaking exploration into the complex histories of US warfare and militarism, illuminating the pivotal role of art in cultivating justice, healing, and abolition. Inspired by Indigenous responses to the “American Indian Wars” and artists from the Greater Middle East and South Asia challenging the “Global War on Terror,” this volume examines the intersections between these legacies of creative rebellion and the experiences of contemporary Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) veterans. Informed by the emerging Veteran Art Movement and its ties to global struggles for demilitarization and abolition, the book advocates for solidarity and imaginative resistance against war and empire.

This stunning group show, which includes @lornasimpson, @sanfordbiggers and @kehindewiley, raises essential funding for programs that mentor African youth to cultivate hope, build character, and gain valuable skills to transform their lives.

Enam Gbewonyo @enamgd British-Ghanaian artist exploring identity, womanhood, and healing through craft and performance. Founder of the Black British Female Artist Collective and fellow of Kehinde Wiley’s Black Rock Senegal residency. Currently in the Stanford MFA program.

Jerome Lagarrigue @jlagarrigue French-American painter based in Brooklyn whose portraits explore identity, power, and visibility. A Rhode Island School of Design graduate with work in the collections of George Lucas and The Dean Collection (@aliciakeys & @therealswizzz).

This the first of three images that will be in the group show Unbound. The exhibit opens October 1st @moadsf and is curated by @keyjolee I am so honored to be included in this exhibition with so many great artists as we represent the variety of ways to explore Blackness. This piece titled Light Years: A Cenotaph for Better Places, is part of an ongoing series where I am creating theoretical monuments for marginalized events and people of the Black Diaspora.

In Home for the Brave, Rodney Ewing @ledette challenges us to consider the weight of history, the endurance of Black identity, and the ways collective memory shapes who we are. A layered work of dry pigment and silkscreen on paper, this piece is a meditation on trauma, resilience, and the deeply personal story of survival in the face of systemic injustice.

Ewing’s work does more than reflect, it reclaims. A San Francisco native now based in New York, his practice interrogates the intersection of lived experience and national myth. He has shown at institutions like the de Young Museum and the Museum of the African Diaspora. Today, his work is part of NYC Mosaic: Corner x Corner, our current exhibition featuring Rodney Ewing, Ronen Gamil, Amir Bey, and Guadalupe Cariño R., four artists who confront history and identity with singular clarity.
