That neon purple base is absolutely unreal!

Guardián de las grietas

Entre grietas y sombras vive el blénido, una especie críptica que convirtió el camuflaje en arte.

Pequeño, curioso y siempre atento,
parece observar al fotógrafo tanto como nosotros a él.
Quizá por eso son modelos perfectos:
no posan por miedo ni por instinto,
sino por esa extraña curiosidad que habita en sus enormes ojos.

Porque cada retrato no solo captura un pez, sino la personalidad escondida de uno de los pequeños guardianes del arrecife.

En el océano, los mayores secretos
no siempre son los más grandes.

I will forever be fascinated by the relationship between anemones and their anemonefish friends. So fortunate to run into these pink footed anemones all closed up. I could have stayed there all day.....

Visiting the sea fan forest....This is Gorgonian Garden, an area at between 30-35 meters deep covered in brightly coloredsoft corals known as Gorgonians.They are colonies of polyps that grow a skeleton in fan-like shapes reaching several meters in diameter.

La roca no estaba muerta. Solo estaba… esperando.

En aguas frías donde todo parece contenido, una “flor” decide romper la estética del silencio. Naranja encendido, tentáculos como llamas lentas, expandida sin pudor sobre la roca. No se entierra, no se esconde. Hace lo contrario: se exhibe. Muy zen para alguien armado con cnidocitos.

Alrededor, las macroalgas hacen lo suyo: filtran la luz, la vuelven verde, la domestican. Se mecen con esa calma engañosa de quien parece paisaje pero sostiene medio ecosistema. Refugio, sombra, estructura… y de paso, el escenario perfecto para este organismo que claramente no pidió permiso para destacar.

A primera vista, anémona. Clásico. Pero luego dudas. La forma no cuadra del todo, la postura menos. Es como si hubiera leído el manual taxonómico y decidiera ignorarlo. ¿Adaptación? ¿Plasticidad? ¿O simplemente otro recordatorio de que el mar no trabaja para nuestras claves dicotómicas?

Y ahí estás tú, mirando una criatura que parece arte pero funciona como trampa, intentando ponerle nombre para sentir control. Pero el océano no negocia con certezas.

Solo deja pistas. Y tentáculos. Y algas que observan en silencio.

On my blackwater dive, I was happily visited by a teeeny tiny pea-sized surprise 🐙✨

At this size, larval octopuses are almost impossible to identify to species. For all we know, this could be the famous deadly blue-ringed octopus 💙☠️, which do frequent these waters...

Most planktonic octopuses at this stage drift helplessly in open water 🌊, but this one chose interaction, selecting my dive-buddy's scuba torch as a resting spot 🖐️ Bold move!
