@clair_health - “Have It All”

Set-Up: 1200X and 1200B through the windows for a sunset vibe (it was night outside). Pavoslim 240C thru 4x4 Unbleached Floppy for main key. Titan Dooplo for wrap, DMG Dash with Dot for eyelight, 150C for ambient lift, and pizza box for talent fill. These were our main units for the rest of the ad as well (along with MC Pros, Nova 600, and an F400R).

Lots of shots, tight schedule and company moves, but we came up with a playbook and it carried us through the day with speed and grace. 🦌

Cetaphil Spec Ad - Starring @lilia & feat. @matt.stone57

It was pouring outside, but you wouldn’t know. ⛈️ We only had a half-day to get through two full scenes & setups—since the Nanlux 1200B is IP rated, I didn’t need to cover it, which was a big time saver.

Key: 1200B thru a small window, largely covered by a 4x4 Magic Cloth for a soft key & room ambiance (some hard light crept through to give background texture). Pavoslim 120C thru a 2x3 Half-Silent Grid to extend the window wrap on talent. 60CR w/ 19° spotlight into a 15CM CRLS No. 2 for a nice highlight on the edge of the bed. MC Pro w/ bubble for an eye-light in the close-ups. 6x6 unbleached muslin t-boned camera right to suck up some of the green cast return from the green walls.

Aveeno x TOGETHXR - The Strength Issue feat. @cameronbrink22

Solo multi-cam interview set-up! Evoke 1200B thru 8x8 Magic Cloth T-Bone for main key. Evoke 600C w/ Light Dome 150 for secondary key. (2) Pavoslim 240CLs with LCDs for hair lights. (1) 4x2 Flex Mat boomed overhead for top fill. Finally (2) Pavoslim 120Cs to help evenly expose the cyc behind talent.

I had 3 hours for load-in & set-up, by myself (including the distro run, which was short). The Pavoslims really help with speed of set-up and tear down. The 240CLs’ punch was perfect for hair lights (powerful enough to play alongside our bright key lights). The 120Cs had enough spread, and good overhead, to fill in the cyc to taste. Every unit had its thickest diffusion option on for maximum softness.

Besides the 120Cs and the 4x2 Flex Mat, everything was running at, or close to, 100%. We were able to land at a F5.6/8 split on talent.

The Smashing Machine - Press Junket for @a24 & @kodak_shootfilm

Had the privilege to light some legends, and listen in on them talk about their craft. 🔨

Set-Up: (2) 8x8 Booklights on both sides of the cameras for keys; Hudson Spider boomed overhead for a backlight; LiteMats & Titans to evenly expose the 20x20 backdrop (and adjust color to taste by changing the Titans & LiteMats temps). 650w Tungsten dimmed all the way down for practical and subtle edge. For some scenes we added a 4x4 floppy to the camera right book light to reduce glare on the glasses.

One year anniversary with the van!

I tossed and turned for months before the keys were in my hand. I wasn’t sure if I was ready, or if it was the right time. But I couldn’t shake the feeling of wanting to find out. Twelve months and a mountain of new experiences later, I’m glad I did.

I’ve learned a lot about my craft, business, people, and myself. A living off creative problem solving: the van helps me live that dream every day. But I know it’s not the van that’s responsible—it’s me, and all my choices. And I owe many thanks to the many people who’ve helped shape who I am and how I act:

@lowkeygaffer and @ryho.rentals for all the wisdom you shared with me about the owner operator route—it was invaluable. To hear and see you both live the kind of life I wanted for myself, gave me the final push I needed.

@stevenwetrich for my first paid gig years ago, which jumpstarted my freelancing career.

@dimasalang_ who introduced me to G&E during COVID, and let me fail in a safe enviornment.

@andrew.lock.545 who told me about his pivots in freelancing at CINEGEAR, which inspired me to pivot and take some risks too.

@colorado_gaffer who answered all my business questions over email, and whose breakdowns were a big help in the beginning.

@shaniagez who always listens to my rambles and lets me lean on her shoulder.

And of course to every DP/Director/Producer/KG/BB/colleague for their trust, input, and warm presence on set.

Hopeful of what is to come!

DEX - “Sorry I Can’t Call Right Now”

Main Set-Up: Nova 600 double broke with 4x4 Bleached Muslin & 8x8 Magic Cloth. Pavoslim 60CL for edge light on talent’s hair. 60CR outside window to add texture to back wall. Pavoslim 240C for room ambiance. NYX bulb in practical. Floppy for negative fill. For the night switch, the grips created a 12x12 tent outside for our moonlight to read, and blacked out all the skylights.

For the coffee shop scene, we had a 1200b, P600c, 600c, and 240c near full blast thru diffs and bounces to compete with the windows outside (lotta light on house power).

DP @e30rp had a great color contrast for the “stood up at dinner” scene. Key was a Pavoslim 120c overhead thru a 2x3 Half Grid, cooler temp with plus green for a moody fluorescent motivation—all other lights were around 2700k.

@ebay x @teenvogue - Watchlist ft. @thenavarose

Fun tungsten shoot! I love the form factor of tungsten units; self-contained, ready to work off the shelf, grab and go. Hopefully more LED fixtures can follow suit. For the side and overhead fills, I could quickly change exposure levels by flooding/spotting the 5ks depending on the coverage. Last slide includes the math I did for the distro run.

Key: 9-Eye Maxibrute thru 12x12 Quarter Grid Booklight. (2) 4x4 Double Nets stacked to slow the back wall down. 5k Baby Senior into 20x20 UB overhead for ceiling fill & 5k into 8x8 UB for side fill. 1k thru half-soft frost as a hair light. Walked in negative fill as needed for close-ups.

@juliacampbellmusic - “Ohio Song”

CRLS has made me more conscious over what areas of the frame I want to emphasize. I can easily fine tune the exact parts I want to draw the viewer’s eye. Here, the officiant was in a tricky spot to light. We wanted some level, but still have it feel believable in the established visual language (2000s romance, higher-key vibe).

The #2 25cm CRLS was the perfect tool; its long throw and precise spread pinged just the officiant’s face perfectly for the shot.

Rest of Set-Up: 1200b thru 4x4 quarter grid to key new-weds, #2 50cm to ping bush leaves in background, 42” shiny board to ping foreground tree leaves and attendees.

For the other scenes, we used CRLS #2 thru 4x4 Half-Soft Frost for the close-ups in the shade (and #3 for hair lights). Then used a 4x4 Quarter Grid, 6x6 UB, 4x4 Beadboard, to key and paint the group shots as needed.

@generalmills x @hispanickitchen - “You Better Be Playing” Ads

Fun product shoot! Set-Up: Nanlux 1200b w/ 45° Dish, double broke through a 4x4 Magic Cloth and an 8x8 Magic Cloth (floppies on the sides) for key. 60CR w/ spotlight for a sun streak on the wall (2x3 Double Net on for even exposure on the slash). Another 60CR w/ spotlight to edge talent (4x4 half-soft frost covered talent’s hands). 4x1 Pavoslim thru a 4x4 Bleached Muslin Floppy for camera right fill. 2x1 Pavoslim into a 4x4 Beadboard behind camera for some frontal fill. (2) Godox F400s rigged over head w/ half grid cloth, butted up together to create a 4x4 source. 6x6 Magic Cloth was draped on top to double break.

600c w/F10 into a 4x4 UB & 50cm CRLS #2 for some specular highlights on the leaves in the back window, and 2x2 Pavoslim for fill.

Titan tube to fill bottom left corner of the wall to have an even exposure across. (2) Titans floated around in the foreground to add sheens to the products as needed.

This was my first set with @blackoutlightingconsole; night & day difference for efficiency. Having one console to control everything allowed me to make adjustments on the fly regardless of the manufacturer. I’ve used it on every set since then and can’t go back.

@edclasvegas x @isoknock - Surprise Guest Reveal

Set-Up: Boom Arms > Menace Arms whenever possible. I love to arm out lightweight fixtures on junior and baby booms: often I work in low ceilings, and the overhead space saved from the menace arm’s center post is essential. Boom arms are also much faster to deploy and tear down.

A big part of my lighting philosophy is to always ask myself, “What is the accepted practice for the desired effect; now, how can we execute it faster, but just as safe and effective?” If I can string up enough of those, the time saved can be significant.

@nanlite_global 60CR w/ fresnel on the baby boom, Pavoslim 240c on the junior boom. Both on combos w/ casters. We easily wheeled them around as our key, rim, and fill as needed per the blocking. A Pavoslim 120c and @asteraofficial Titan Tube with a @honeycrates grid (sometimes into a 4x2 beadboard) to help for fill as needed. Some 4x4 floppies to kill spill light and reflections for certain shots. (2) @aputure.lighting MC Pros on the slot machine to key talent as he played.

@nike x @utaustintx - U Move Campaign

Set-Up: (2) @aputure.lighting 1200xs for keys, fills, and rims as needed (powered off a Honda EU7000i). We swapped between all 3 dishes depending on the amount of throw and spread desired. 42” shiny board, 4x4 bead-board, and a pizza box for wrap as needed.

Since we were outside all day, it was great to change the color temp on the fly as the sun continued to set. Ever since the release of bi-color 1200w LED fixtures, I haven’t rented an M18 for any short-form work. Excited for the high wattage LED revolution to continue—less cable, faster setups, more shots for the DP & Director.

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
