I have this vivid memory of @bladecam_dixon on rollerblades, the whole team on electric bikes, flying over an empty bridge reserved for the runners, the sun bouncing off the water beside us. Filmmaking lives in moments like that, just as much as in the final film.

A year ago, @xavi.nyc reached out through @asian_brad_pitt_fightclub_one, and a passion project turned into seven days chasing marathon stories across Tokyo.

This is one of my favorite projects I’ve made, especially sonically. Hire Val for everything. We only had two days for sound, and I’ve genuinely never worked with a more talented sound designer. @valkks

And @goodbye.kirkwolf thank you for a month in the edit room. Exploring different paths through 4TB of footage is a wild task, and I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. I can’t wait to make more together. You’re insanely talented.

Also to @torn_studios.ltd for getting this over the line with such a tight turnaround. The colour is really special on this. 😍

Sub 3: The Starting Line for Tokyo Weekender

BRICK by TOKYO started as three friends with a shared passion for fitness and community.

Last year, we connected with Xavi Portillo and had the privilege of documenting what happened when co-founder Ralph and Xavi’s NYC-based run club Sombra Civilization met in Tokyo to train together ahead of the 2025 Marathon. Two groups, different languages, different cultures, united by the same belief that fitness builds community.

Documenting this journey was one of our favorite projects of 2025. Now with the 2026 Tokyo Marathon on Sunday and both Brick and Sombra returning, we can’t wait to see what’s next for them 🏃

Thank you everyone who supported us on this passion project!

Sub 3：Tokyo Weekender のスタートライン

BRICK by TOKYO は、フィットネスとコミュニティへの情熱を共有する3人の友情から始まりました。

昨年、共同創設者の Ralph と、ニューヨークを拠点とするランクラブ Sombra Civilization の Xavi Portillo が出会い、2025年の東京マラソンに向けて東京で共にトレーニングする様子を記録する機会に恵まれました。

言語も文化も異なる2つのグループ。
それでも「フィットネスはコミュニティをつくる」という同じ信念のもと、ひとつになった時間。

この旅をドキュメントできたことは、2025年の中でも特に大切なプロジェクトのひとつとなりました。

そして今週末、3/1(日)は2026年の東京マラソン。
BRICK も Sombra も、再び東京の街を走ります。

彼らの挑戦、その次のチャプターが今から楽しみです 🏃

To celebrate the last day of Mental Health Awareness month, I’m putting out my short film, a collaboration with @yasmine_khalia, to hopefully reach a few more eyes and ears, and remove the barriers between mental illness and conversation. A lot of stigma is attached to these topics, but hopefully we can start exploring more portrayals, using mediums like film to gain new insight and understanding.
