There’s something deeply La Jolla about ordering a spritz, grabbing a wood-fired pizza, and eating both a few feet from the ocean, still in your swimsuit. La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club understands this rhythm well. @ljbtc
The landmark coastal property just completed the first phase of its $60 million transformation, including major renovations to the pool deck, Club Dining, Club Market, and Walnut Lounge. There’s a refreshed pool area, upgraded patios, a new pizza oven, and a walk-up cocktail window—one of the best amenities we’ve heard of in recent memory.
More importantly, La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club resisted the increasingly common hotel disease of renovating the personality out of the place. It still feels like classic La Jolla. Kids running around barefoot and sandy. Tennis players wandering into lunch with a minor sunburn and a major appetite. Golf carts humming around the property. Someone carrying an entire pizza onto the beach like they’re transporting precious cargo.
The club first opened in 1927 and has been family-owned since the 1930s. That explains why the property still understands that San Diego luxury is less about formality and more about having a private beach, a strong lunch situation, and enough activities to spend an entire day in the sunshine.
