MIRA Art Fair is pleased to announce Maritza M. Lacayo, Associate Curator at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), as part of the Selection Committee for MIRA 2026.
Through her curatorial practice at PAMM, Maritza has developed exhibitions that expand the conversation around contemporary art while bringing thoughtful attention to emerging and underrepresented voices. Her work reflects a sharp curatorial vision and a deep commitment to artists whose practices shape the cultural landscape of our time.
Alongside her exhibition work, she has contributed to important art publications and artist monographs, overseen the production of museum catalogues, and collaborated with institutions such as the YoungArts Foundation as both mentor and curator.

I am deeply honored to announce that “HOMECOMING (Before Time, the First Migrations),” the namesake painting of my exhibition at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), has been acquired into the museum’s permanent collection. This acquisition is especially meaningful, as the work speaks deliberately to the region’s geography, history, and its profound connections to Caribbean and Latin American diasporic journeys.
The process for the painting “HOMECOMING (Before Time, the First Migrations)” began in my Brooklyn studio and concluded through a series of live painting sessions at the museum. Under the brilliant curation of Maritza M. Lacayo, Associate Curator, the museum space was transformed into an extension of my studio. An immersive experience where painting materials, physical abstract gestures, and music from my vinyl record collection converged.
My sincere thanks to Maritza; Franklin Sirmans, Sandra and Tony Tamer Director; and Fabiana Sotillo, Curatorial Assistant; and everyone who worked with such care on this exhibition including my studio family Rey Parlá, Claudia Hilda and Christian A. Mendoza.
To Miami, the place of my birth and my first home. Thank you for welcoming me back.

Her current exhibition, Inside Out, focuses on several ongoing series—shadow paintings, still lifes, street vendors, and runaways—created over the past several years.
