Award-winning author Max Porter reads his powerful piece “Wild West” on the British arms trade.

From our event, How Empires End, in London, December 2023.

“This is a piece about what your neighbour does for a living. I’ve read this piece before, I write it again and again and again and it disgusts me. I literally cut and paste verbatim from the BAE systems website. Cut, paste, read, weep.”

“I can’t tell the difference between something I made up to satirize the horrific, banal language of industrial murder, and the language of denial, obfuscation, the small print of precision killing and trade agreements, the atrocity in numbers, percentages. The language of a politician, a so-called human rights lawyer, asked to vote to stop the killing, replying, ‘Well, now look, there’s an election next year. We’ll have to wait to see what the polls say. It’s a complex situation.’”

“The language of abject, squalid immorality, the language of a sold soul. The numbers growing, the technology keeps improving. The race is still on to find better and better ways of killing. Names change, the facts remain the same. Business is booming. It’s an evil, easily measured in mourning, the size of this world.”

'What would a literary opposition to violence even sound like?'

The PEN Lecture was delivered live at the Curtis Auditorium in Newcastle on 29 April 2026 by the renowned English writer Max Porter. In a speech almost entirely framed as a series of questions, he urges us – particularly writers and literary practitioners – to genuinely reckon with our complacencies at a time of ongoing war and genocides stoked by heightened militarism, fascism, patriarchy, and technocapitalism. What does peace even mean in a world like this? What can it possibly look like, how can it come into being?

'Are we only allowed to dream of profit, victory, security, defence?'

This was a pure joy. The @lisson_gallery invited me to write about @rodneygrahamstudio magnificent upside-down trees. I got a bit carried away, turned myself inside out with Rodney and with some other artists and writers in order to get at these images, and accidentally wrote a novella in 100-word pieces, and the Lisson have turned it into this beautiful little book. Huge thanks to everyone involved. All I do is think about trees. “Who does not love a tree?”

Repeating Ourselves III. Autumn 2025.

It needs to be repeated that this is the first genocide that has happened on our phones. It needs to be repeated that we are capable of watching something for over two years without seeing it. It needs to be repeated that even as we have differently registered the scale of destruction in Gaza, we have not been able to stop it with protests or with boycotts. It needs to be repeated that we will continue to protest and to boycott, even if we face arrest. It needs to be repeated that the “ceasefire” has not stopped the killing. It needs to be repeated that our country is deeply implicated in the destruction of Gaza and the intensifying illegal occupation of the West Bank, and this weighs on everyone’s psyche, especially because it is so often denied, especially because history is repeating itself.

In this crisis of repetitions, we want to draw attention to poems being written by Palestinians. At a time when Palestinian voices are ignored or violently silenced, and the global architects of the genocide loudly congratulate one another, the third poem we are sharing is ‘Palestine Still Lives’, by Sarah, who is a 13-year-old poet from Gaza. Her mother has multiple sclerosis so Sarah looks after the whole household. They can’t get medication for her mother and can’t evacuate her. Sarah has not stopped writing. She is writing in an English that is clearer than ours.

Sarah’s poem has been letterpress-printed by @theohersey. You can buy an A4 print of her poem on via the link in our bios or via @theohersey’s online shop. Each purchase also comes with an A5 print of ‘Repeating Ourselves III’. Prints will ship out in w/c 24th November.

All proceeds will be shared directly with Sarah & her family, & with @doctorswithoutborders.

This is the third in a series of letterpress poems by Palestinian poets, sourced through @thehandsupproject.

Please feel encouraged to share/re-post, as a way of lifting up Palestinian voices.

STEVE is in selected cinemas today and drops on Netflix on 3rd October.

Thank you for the incredible responses so far. We’re very grateful to have been able to make a film like this.

Thank you Cillian and Alan and team @bigthingsfilms

Thank you Anne Mensah and Mona Qureshi @netflixuk

Beautiful cast. Incredible crew. Such fun, thoughtful, tender and exhausting days together.

Special love to @alfiercc my script and set bezzie.

Special kiss to @jaylycurgo, who everyone can see is a generational talent. My clever sensitive friend inside Shy’s mind.

Big up the boys. Wild, agonising, heartbreaking, individual and ensemble magic.
Tracey Ullman and Emily Watson holding the school together!

Thank you @barrow_geoff and Ben Salisbury for perfect work and indulging me on Slipmatt.
Special gratitude to Simbi @littlesimz for the incredible tune as well as her stunning performance as Shola.

Dedicated to teachers and carers of all kinds. Anyone who does the difficult best work. Thank you.

Filmed during a genocide and not an hour goes by when we don’t send our unconditional love and support to Palestinians. Justice & Freedom.

Check on your broken people here there and everywhere.

“You’re not alone, Shy. That’s the whole point.”

Very special day yesterday at HMP Erlestoke launching the anthology LIFETIME which concludes my writer in residence workshops.

So proud of the guys for the work they’ve done and so grateful to them for the honesty, humour and compassion of our sessions. It’s a truism of working in prisons but god it’s so humbling, clarifying and inspiring spending time with these men. It’s an honour, and it’s become profoundly central to everything I do.

If you want a copy, scan the QR, make a donation small or large to Friends of Erlestoke Prison (who support this and other creative programmes in the prison), DM me the proof and I’ll post you a copy!

Thanks to brilliant Jo @wiltshire_writer for inviting me to do the residency and for putting together this lovely book.

Thanks to @davidshillinglaw for the lush illustration of Pete’s poem!

Thanks to my friend and mentor in all things prison related @davidkendall71 @pennedupprisonfestival

Thanks @neil.torres.14224, Elizabeth Williams and the prison education and library team for hospitality and kindness. Terrible coffee. Decent biscuits. Beautiful work.

Repeating Ourselves. Summer 2025.

It needs to be repeated that this is the first genocide that has happened on our phones. It needs to be repeated that we are capable of watching something for two years without seeing it. It needs to be repeated that even when we have dimly registered the scale of destruction in Gaza, we have not been able to stop it with protests or with boycotts or with letters to the government. We will continue to protest and to boycott and to send letters to the government. It needs to be repeated that an entire population is on the brink of starvation and we know this but can’t get the food past the blockade. It needs to be repeated that our country is deeply implicated in the destruction of Gaza and this weighs on everyone’s psyche, especially because it is so often denied, especially because history is repeating itself.

In this crisis of repetitions, we want to draw attention to poems being written by Palestinians. We want to print them, so they can physically share space with their reader. The first of these poems is by Saleh, a 17-year-old poet from Gaza. He is one of millions who are trying to survive Israel’s full-scale assault on a starving people. He has not stopped writing. He is writing in an English that is clearer than ours.

Saleh’s poem, ‘When the Sea became a Wall’, has been letterpress-printed by @theohersey. You can buy a print of the poem via link our bios. Each purchase comes with an A5 print of ‘Repeating Ourselves’. Prints will ship out w/c 30 June.

All proceeds will be shared directly with Saleh & his family, with @medicalaidpal & with @savechildrenuk

This is the first in a forthcoming series of letterpress poems by Palestinian poets. We’ll announce each new edition here. Please feel encouraged to share this post on, as a way to lift up Palestinian voices at a time when many of those voices are being silenced.

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
