I am always looking for new ways to push a story forward to help shape the style of a film. That can mean a number of things for the style - naturalism vs. expressionist, framing choices - the list can go on and on. When I read the script Piggy, I felt like there was an opportunity to push the limits here with what the main character, Evan, is really going through.

We intentionally lit and framed in ways that would make the audience uncomfortable - overexposed the image, extreme closeups, diopters, filtration, and some pretty awesome and well timed lens flares throughout the story. Can’t wait for this project to come out into the world and I’m grateful I had the opportunity to work on this film.

“Most of All” - a short film directed by @craig3709.

The film intermixes dream and reality in a church/bedroom setting, which gave us a lot of room to experiment with lighting and camera movement. Our goal was to shoot each scene in as few shots as possible, so the film could really only be edited one way. @vglongo created a stained glass cucoloris along with a cross shaped gobo to really set the mood. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

This past August/September I was given the opportunity to shoot my first Vermont feature length film. This was a bit different of an experience because I’m normally very hands on with operating, blocking, lighting. However, I injured my leg a week before production and was rendered near-immobile.I took this as a learning experience in communication with your crew and came out on the other side better for it all. Here are my full thoughts on what I learned:

1. Hire a great crew and trust in their expertise.
2. Patience and communication are key.
3. Vermont is beautiful.
4. So are horses.
5. Bring your wife to work day is fun.
6. Sometimes you have to tell the grips to kick rocks.
7. And sometimes the horses won’t like that.
8. It’s best to start the day off with a jig while the coffee brews.
9. Always bail your crew out of jail. And don’t ask questions you don’t want to know the answers to.
10. Set dogs are the best.

Hugely thankful for this opportunity and for everyone who came along for the ride!

This past August/September I was given the opportunity to shoot my first Vermont feature length film. This was a bit different of an experience because I’m normally very hands on with operating, blocking, lighting. However, I injured my leg a week before production and was rendered near-immobile.I took this as a learning experience in communication with your crew and came out on the other side better for it all. Here are my full thoughts on what I learned:

1. Hire a great crew and trust in their expertise.
2. Patience and communication are key.
3. Vermont is beautiful.
4. So are horses.
5. Bring your wife to work day is fun.
6. Sometimes you have to tell the grips to kick rocks.
7. And sometimes the horses won’t like that.
8. It’s best to start the day off with a jig while the coffee brews.
9. Always bail your crew out of jail. And don’t ask questions you don’t want to know the answers to.
10. Set dogs are the best.

This past August/September I was given the opportunity to shoot my first Vermont feature length film. This was a bit different of an experience because I’m normally very hands on with operating, blocking, lighting. However, I injured my leg a week before production and was rendered near-immobile.I took this as a learning experience in communication with your crew and came out on the other side better for it all. Here are my full thoughts on what I learned:

1. Hire a great crew and trust in their expertise.
2. Patience and communication are key.
3. Vermont is beautiful.
4. So are horses.
5. Bring your wife to work day is fun.
6. Sometimes you have to tell the grips to kick rocks.
7. And sometimes the horses won’t like that.
8. It’s best to start the day off with a jig while the coffee brews.
9. Always bail your crew out of jail. And don’t ask questions you don’t want to know the answers to.
10. Set dogs are the best.
