Ming Strike’s 2025 💥
This year we were quieter on the surface, but steady underneath. Exploring how we work whilst our locations and roles change, this year we have done:

🎧 5 podcast episodes (#36–#40)
We had conversations between us and with @ctchen1978 @elisabettygun @erinmoving about arts labour, movement, where to pause, and how to keep going.

🫂 2 live events
We finally brought Ming Strike into a room: live podcast, karaoke, performances, films, readings, and many shared moments with ESEA artists and audiences. We were hosted by independent spaces in London @hoxtonhall and @yourxyzworld , and witnessed by @ayoungishperspective and @divedance.uk

✍️ 1 long piece
A written compilation of voices from grassroots art collectives hosted on @performingborders

🍻 and many last minute drinks and chats and bumping into our friends at different venues!

Wishing everybody an adventurous 2026 and stay tuned for our yearly roundup special podcast, coming up soon!!

Host
Howl,

Guest

It’s not what we talk about - the important thing is that WE are talking.
This is Ming Strike’s ongoing ethos: conversation as practice, Asia as method, made tangible through gathering.

Alternative Roots is a celebration of being together: artists, audiences, and communities sharing the same time and space. Everyone gathered in one flow of festivity, conversation, and care. We don’t need to please any gaze; this is a platform for us to speak and be as we are.

It’s been an incredible day with eight-hour non-stop programme of performances, films, and conversations unfolding across the beautiful rooms of Hoxton Hall.

This event couldn’t have happened without the generosity and dedication of all the participating artists, the continued production support from Kakilang @kakilangarts . Our sincere thanks also to @hoxtonhall for their warm support and stunning venue, to our technicians Ghost Chan @ghosososost and Rob Callender, to Joy Chao @chaohsuantzu for capturing the day through beautiful photos, and to Runxuan Yang @runnn.x for shaping the visual identity of Alternative Roots.

Participating artists and collectives in AR2025 are:
Sook Kuan Tang @tangbubbles , Bunga Yuridespita @iamyoshimi_ , Jan-Ming Lee @janleeuk , Flo Yuting Zhu @_magpie , Shuyi Gao @tender_228 & Savannah Theis @practicing_relationality , Kassy Fang @urawayy , Lanyun Huang @finchy973 , Sam Reynolds @heysamreynolds , Duoduo(is shine) @duoduo_is_shine , May Kway @may.kway , Jade Johnson @jadeyilinart , X&J @manyprojects.co , Clare Chun-yu Liu @clarechunyuliu , Jessica Wan Yu Lin @jessicawanyulin / @yingfantw , Er Gao @ergaodance , Funa Ye @oyester & Burong Zeng @burongz , Outland Publishing @outlandpublishingfair , VaChina @vachina2021 , Yulin Huang @yuyulinnnnnn , @homikitchen.uk, @timmysfusion, and us @ming.strike

Thank you all for bringing your care, risk, and imagination into this shared day.

New acts added to the BAD ASIAN CLUB line-up, kicking off 20:30 tomorrow night!

Your festival pass gets you access to the full programme, running from 13:00 to 22:00.

Sam Reynolds @heysamreynolds will be presenting the UK premiere of the art video adaptation of his stage piece ‘Spell’, which he will also perform live, and more, as part of Bad Asians Club – an alternative cabaret celebrating queer excess and diasporic mischief, which he will also host.

Chinese-born, asexual performance artist Runxuan Yang @runnn.x is presenting May Kway, a horror drag performance where a vase-bodied showgirl shatters the glamour of orientalised femininity into bloodied monstrosity.

Finch (Lanyun) Huang @finchy973 presents Peacock: A former object of worship learns to survive after losing its mythic power. Through gaze, desire, and negotiation, she reclaims agency by performing. Identity shifts:creature, performer, dominatrix…revealing power as something fluid, not inherited.

DJ set:
多多duoduo(is shine) @duoduo_is_shine
A Chinese girl audiovisual duo formed in 2025 by artists YUNA阿尘 @yunaa_sparasii and Tongktongktong @tongktongktong. Based in London, their practice explores consciousness, reality, and the human psyche through sound and visuals.

🎟 Alternative Roots — a one-day festival of live art, film, and conversation by ESEA artists.

#39. Theatre is Not Worth It, But... In conversation with Elisabeth Gunawan / 剧场不值得,但...

Intro
In this episode, we had a conversation with theatre artist Elisabeth Gunawan (Betty). Each of us got to know her at different places, but we’ve all been blown away by how sharply she reflects and how effortlessly she drops golden one-liners. Since 2021, Betty has been making frequent apprearances in the UK theatre scene with award-winning works like Unforgettable Girl and Stamping in the Graveyard. In this conversation, we talk with Betty about her upcoming show Prayers for a Hungry Ghost at the Barbican and dive into her creative philosophy. Is her name real? It’s a matter of choice. Is theatre worth it? She chooses it anyway. Making theatre in a lean way? But always resourceful.
Unforgettably Girl,Stamping in the Graveyard等频频获奖的作品。 Prayers for a Hungry Ghost,并探讨她的创作理念。

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
