We’re still coming down from Sandbox’s (@sandboxfestival) high, and we’ve had some of our favorite sets from this year’s edition on repeat ever since.

A highlight of this year, Misty (@misty__live) - one of the most established names of the Egyptian DJ scene - brought the kind of groovy set he always does to Sandbox: house music fused with bright disco, synths, funk, and jazz, delivered with an energy and flow that effortlessly pulled crowds in.

At Sandbox, Misty delivered both day and night - from morning sessions at the Beach Hut stage that stretched nearly into the sunset, to nighttime sets inside the Yellow Tape Records Box (@yellowtaperec).

A while ago, I was approached by @applemusic to represent Cairo in their Sounds of Africa campaign, selecting one DJ from each city to tell its story through music.
This became my first ever open format mix of Egyptian music. A story through Cairo’s modern sound, from pop, indie, and rap to experimental, funk, rock, and electronic.

41 tracks of artists who have shaped the city’s identity and are exporting its sound beyond borders. With some special unreleased songs from @dirtybackseat & @chiati.music

Trying to include everyone wasn’t easy. That would’ve easily turned into a 10-hour mix. But this is a snapshot of a scene that’s alive, evolving, and impossible to box in.

Beyond the Dancefloor – In Conversation with @misty__live

The heart of club culture is not only the party itself, but the love for the music we share – the connection we experience together and the feeling of being part of something larger for a few hours. @misty__live gives us the soundtrack for these nights, and this is what he wants to contribute to the scene: to give people a good time with good music. “I genuinely put my heart into it,” he says.

His journey hasn’t always been easy. As an Egyptian DJ, finding visibility beyond regional borders came with its own struggles – one of the reasons he took over @loveattackrecords last year, shaping it into a platform that opens doors he once searched for himself. Love, in many ways, runs like a red thread through his work: in the name of the label he now leads, in his collaborations, and in the way he speaks about community. “I think collaboration is key to developing your music and also connecting with different people. Every person I’ve collaborated with ended up becoming a really close friend and but was a stranger at the start.”

Tracks like “Aywa Aywa,” created together with @dishdash_music and carried by the Syrian vocals of @ebla_official, show how naturally he brings different voices into one shared language. In our interview, Misty talks about early nights at Cairo Jazz Club, studio accidents that turned into songs, why validation still matters, and how the club can become a small bubble where the world outside fades for a moment.
