Riding the back of the Beast

hello. It’s been a while since I’ve posted last.
Usually photography has been a refuge for me in any turbulent circumstances. But for the last half a year I felt the polar opposite, couldn’t bring myself to do any personal work or editing or printing. Two days ago it marked 6 month since I suddenly and tragically lost my dad. I don’t think I have processed anything yet but got good at masking things and taking life one day at a time. I’ve also redirected my attention to set design and set dressing and only took paid photography gigs.

This morning, however, I really felt the want to look through the rolls of film from last October in Chile, where we celebrated the love of my dear friends, Geo and Vale.

I was surrounded by my chosen family, met and made new friends, felt joy and freedom. I guess I felt ashamed to feel it deeply in the months of grief so it was hard to look at the images I took.

Anyway. I’m gonna share some now.
This image was taken at the village high up in the mountains where we spent a week or so.
I would usually sit by the pool and play with the dog while Julia and Victor made lunch

My final project for the CSM MA degree show, ‘Black Hole,’ featured builder’s foam, various balls, and fishing wire, shot on #KodakPortra800 with a #Pentax67ii. I was focused on “in front of the lens” installations then and am considering circling back to that more in my current work.
