🚨New Community Route Alert 🚨

Matt Mason, creator of the popular Monumental Loop and Rollin & Tumblin bikepacking routes has created a new route in Southern New Mexico called Wayfaring Stranger.

Wayfaring Stranger utilizes quiet gravel roads providing access to a sparsely populated region with expansive views, solitude, archaeological sites, and a large intact Chihuahuan Desert grassland on Otero Mesa.

This route was born out of a collaboration with @nmwilderness. As part of their work to protect vulnerable and cherished landscapes, they’ve been leading a process to secure protection for the fragile and unique grasslands on Otero Mesa. They reached out to Matt to create a bikepacking route to raise awareness for the Mesa and the surrounding mountains. Wayfaring Stranger is a route born of our mutual desire to see Otero Mesa receive long term legal protection.

Visitors will see a variety of wildlife, archaeological sites, and experience a quiet remote area that feels a bit like traveling back in time. Night skies are extremely dark with only the faint glow of El Paso off to the west.

Don’t let the relatively smooth roads and lack of climbing lull you into a false sense of security! Wayfaring Stranger presents challenges via potential strong winds, lack of water and services, and extreme solitude.

With elevations ranging from 3,500 to nearly 7,000 feet, this route is best ridden during the shoulder seasons, with late September through November and March through April being ideal.

See the link in bio to check out the route.

Gravaleros!
6:30 Thursday
Sierra Vista Norte Trailhead

@beckyhayward77 signed up to lead this week but then @friendsomdp announced they’d be celebrating the designation of OM-DP at Dripping Springs so Becky’s choice was easy. We’ll ride from the SVT TH up to Dripping Springs. All bikes and people are welcome. Here’s your chance to ride that vintage Pinarello.

It’s all up hill then all down hill.I’ll guess 4 miles one way but it’s not long.

@monumental_loop I am always reminded what a privilege it is to ride through the Mescalero Apache lands and Sacramento Mountains. ⛰️🏕️🚲

Grateful to the friends who made this trip possible. I couldn’t have done it without you. From SAG vehicle support to those who rode side by side through some of the most strenuous mountain climbs, you helped make Sac Weed feel more inclusive and fun for everyone.

Big thanks to all the volunteers for supporting the riders @indigo_rides @notadrianmonroy @benthereandbackagain and making it such an amazing event this year.

Last year @may_bee_tree suggested, during a giggle filled stop under a couple low slung junipers (we sit where cows sit) that in 2026 we should call it SacWeed.Ok. So we did.SacWeed is in a couple of days.

As I was looking back at the routes we’ve used I realized this year was the shortest and flattest.119 miles and ~11.5K of climbing.Weedsac, the name of the event in odd years, is more than a year away but I got curious about what might happen if I swung the pendulum back towards a more difficult route. A SacWeed/WeedSac balance in the universe. So I hopped on @ridewithgps and played around for an hour.158 miles, 16,666 feet of climbing. Almost the entirety of the Rim Trail included. Hornbuckle Hill into Scott Able Trail combo climb included.Singletrack and piles of rocks included wherever semi-reasonable.

Nothing set in limestone yet but now that I know nearly every road and trail in the Sacs, the fun lies in putting them together in interesting ways. One thing that interests me (and Phil!) is hard rides.

See y’all Friday!

Gravaleros!

Thursday 6:30
@spotteddogbrewery
~20 miles of West Mesa gravel

Who’s leading? We are all leaders here! This one has long straight stretches and only a couple turns so don’t stress it.Pablo knows the route and so do a bunch of you.Up the hill by Mesilla Dam, hang a right at the hole in the fence, down Clavicle Hill and return to Mesilla.

Gravelly bikes are ok if you’ve got the skills but many will prefer a mountain bike. Tell Liz Happy Birthday.

I’ll be hanging with @outdoorsclubcen10 and @friendsomdp AND getting ready for SacWeed so won’t be there.

Down in the basement of Monumental Loop HQ we have an oversized set of switches, think Dr. Sattler turning on the power at Jurassic Park, that we flip twice a year from desert to mountain mode. It’s time to flip the switch. If you’re out on the Monumental Loop…Jump Timmy!

Mountain season is here.Check out Rollin’ & Tumblin’ for your summer bike tours in southern NM.Or hit up some swimming holes deep in the Gila and leave the bikes at home.Maybe go visit your buds in Alaska, but don’t plan on Looping until October.

By popular request we made a little batch of Loop merch. We’re not into slapping our logo on garbage though so we hollered @rustek.collective to make us some natural fiber hats. No plastic here! These light weight beauties are great for stashing in a framebag and can be paired with your lovely @nightbird designed DangerBird bandanna creating the most stylish sun system anywhere.

We’ve got about 50 of them, 25 in each color. They’re available now for $50 each.Yes that’s a lot but these puppies weren’t cheap and you’ll be supporting the Loop events when you purchase. We’ll toss in a Loop pour-over coffee from @picachocoffee and a few silly stickers too while supplies last.

I’ll drop a few @outdooradventureslc tomorrow and can deliver locally anytime. They’ll also be available at SacWeed next week!

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
