It follows Amy Goodman’s three decades-long career holding the powerful to account and crafts a portrait of journalism’s power — and peril — in an era of corporate control of the news and growing political attacks on democracy and freedom of press.

Such a beautiful NYC launch for @jbethiejean’s new memoir “Song For a Hard-Hit People: A Memoir of Anti-Racist Solidarity From a Coal Miner’s Daughter,” out now from @haymarketbooks. Her story and her work with @showingupforracialjustice and in Kentucky is situated in a long tradition of white working class organizing, including the 1921 Battle of Blair Mountain—the largest Union uprising in American history, in which Black and white Appalachian coal miners joined forces to fight the companies that were exploiting them, all wearing red bandanas to signify they wanted a union, which is where the term “redneck” came from—and Kentucky’s own legendary Ann Braden. Get this beautiful testimony of survival, grit, collectivity, joy, militancy, and awakening for you and a friend. It will become required reading for white people looking to divest from white supremacy and join multiracial movements for justice. We have to win our people back from the right (and the neoliberal democrats). We have so much to learn from our southern, rural, and Appalachian comrades. We must refuse the classist propaganda that us northerners often promote to distance OURSELVES from taking responsibility for our states’/regions’ role in enabling fascism, racism, corporate greed, and disinvestment.
