‘No Problem’ by @morriarchi
A collection of instrumentals derived from the sounds of UK street soul circa 1984-1994.
This has been a long time bucket list to do, and probably is just scratching surface....
Unlike its US counter part and musical older sibling , UK street soul was a little more raw, more sultry, slightly macabre and dare i say it a bit funkier???
With Loose Ends, Omar, Soul II Soul leading the charge, lesser known but equally important groups like i-level, 5th of Heaven, En - To - End to name a few made a savage impact on the scene and its adjacent sub genres.
A product of loosely wired sound systems, love letters, weekend shirts, panda pop and dunkable biscuits.
Named after the short lived TV show ‘ No Problem’created by the Black Theatre Co-operatives and featuring the illustrious cast of Victor Romero Evans, Shope Shodeinde, Chris Tummings, Judith Jacob and the phenomenal Janet Kay.
In this weird and saddeningwave of fascism we are seeing across the country atm heres to celebrating a part of Britain you can be proud of.

‘Buggville Sessions’ dropped 10 years ago today on @blahrecords
Buggzville was the name we gave the basement studio of a spot i rented in Camberwell when i first came down to london and started working with Blah around 2014-15.
@tinfoilfronts and @salarssie had recently moved as well and were working on the new incarnation of COTD and recruiting the likes of @blackjosh616 and @swampsideslummy , the latter of which i was making a project with that would later become ‘Morrstinkin’and where i met @bisk.17 and recorded much of our first work together, simultaneously Lee was working on his solo album ‘CactuOwlMoonGoat’ of which i made a few tracks for in that studio.
Eventually through various sessions for the above projects and many messy afters we had multiple volumes of tracks , along with Lee we bundled the best of them together and started reaching out to previous blah collaborators to give the project more scope.
Herrotics, Danny Lover, @trellion and @sniffgramz , @sleazyfbaby @matt.frost__ @joey__dirt Hekla, @illuzual and of course the don @jehstofficial
It was definitely a hazy period, lots of lean, shite takeaways (no uber eats) , only 7 filters on insta (as u can tell) , super basic engineering knowledge , but we just went purely off the energy of what was building at the time and knew that there was something brewing again.
For me the project kinda captures just that, bunch of artists from all over the place geographically, wild different styles, but all equally hungry to make it happen in the moment , kinda what i liked from compilation projects at the time, lyricist lounge ,skitz - countryman, the £10 bag tapes etc .
Also started my long run with the legend that is @matt_littler that fully came through in the clutch with the artwork and made me feel confident it was ready to go out to the world as my first proper album.
My production on it haunted me for years 😂 but now i look back on it less harshly , definitely had a sound to it , n see it as just part of the journey, 10 years is long as fuck
Big shouts to all those involved and all that supported.

Bank Holiday 24th of May come and catch a vibe @soma__ldn with myself & @morriarchi running it up 8pm till late 💃💃💃

The issue with ‘UK HIP-HOP…’
Here’s rapper @mudinmymalbec and producer @morriarchi on why the term gives some people the ick.

Get Familiar with Morriarchi & Sonnyjim now on our blog.
In the ever-evolving landscape of hip hop, two artists have been quietly but consistently bending the rules. Birmingham rapper Sonnyjim and Sheffield producer Morriarchi come from different parts of the country, but share a deep commitment to craft, collaboration, and keeping things unpredictable.
Sonnyjim’s deadpan flow and razor-sharp wordplay have seen him move between underground cult status and collaborations with legends like MF Doom, Jay Electronica, DJ Premier, and Madlib. Morriarchi, meanwhile, has carved out a reputation as a beatmaker with cinematic vision — pulling from dusty records, global travels, and Sheffield’s DIY spirit to create soundscapes that sit somewhere between hip hop, trip hop, and leftfield electronica.
Together, they’ve built a partnership rooted in trust, experimentation, and an almost playful refusal to fit into one box. Their forthcoming record is their most expansive yet — spanning smoked-out jazz loops, heavy funk flips, and unexpected cinematic turns.
Get familiar with the duo as they talk about their creative chemistry, the UK’s shifting musical landscape, and how to keep building when algorithms and AI threaten to flatten the sound. What follows is a conversation about community, chaos, and finding your voice in a scene that’s finally getting global attention.
