We believe art museum workers should not have to choose between working in service to a mission and being able to afford basic living expenses. They should be able to do both, with dignity and respect.

Is it getting better to work in museums?
The New York Times digs into MMFs new 196-page report on Workplace Equity and Organizational Culture in US Art Museums, out today:
“While museum employees are feeling better about their workplaces, as compared with the earlier study, satisfaction in some areas is still below the national averages of some other surveys. While the percentage of employees who were considering quitting their jobs fell 14 percentage points, it is still about 2 percent higher than what a recent Gallup poll suggested was a national average of 52 percent.”—@zacharyhsmall

Nisa Mackie @nimackie currently serves as Deputy Director, Learning and Engagement at MoMA. Prior to MoMA, she was Head of Public Engagement, Learning, and Impact at Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and Head of Education and Public Programs for the Biennale of Sydney in Australia. Nisa joined MMF's board in 2024 and is based in NYC.

Christine Y. Kim @see_why_kay is an independent curator and co-founder of LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division) and GYOPO. Most recently, she curated sister dreamer, a major public work by artist Lauren Halsey in South Central Los Angeles. Previously, Christine has held curatorial positions at Tate Modern, London; LACMA; and The Studio Museum in Harlem. She also serves on the board of Denniston Hill @dennistonhill. After being involved with MMF since our very early days, Christine joined the board in 2025. She is based in Los Angeles.

Danielle Bias @daniknows joined MMF’s board in 2024. She is currently Chief Communications and Marketing Officer at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Previously, she held leadership roles in communications at the Whitney Museum of American Art and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Danielle is based in Los Angeles.

Alana Hernandez @alana__hernandez is Senior Curator at the ASU Art Museum (one of MMF’s Partner Museums) where she leads the curatorial team and oversees the exhibition program. She was previously Executive Director & Curator at CALA Alliance, and has held curatorial positions at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Páramo, Guadalajara, Mexico; Hunter East Harlem, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Phoenix Art Museum; and BRIC Arts Media, Brooklyn. She joined MMF's board in 2024 and is based in Tempe, AZ.

Jenni Kim @frankyandjenni has spent more than thirty years in the arts and cultural sector and has led operations at museums and organizations across the country including MoMA PS1, the Hammer Museum, the American Academy in Rome, and the Park Avenue Armory.She is currently Chief Operating Officer at the David Lynch Foundation, which was founded by the artist to support mental health and wellness in at risk populations. Jenni served on MMF’s Advisory Council and Data Study Advisory Group, and led the Emotionally Intelligent Leaders Study Group, before joining our board in 2025. Jenni is based in NYC.

Amanda Tobin Ripley, Ph.D., @amandatobinripley is a critical museum scholar and practitioner whose research focuses on grassroots efforts to advance equity in the cultural sector. Amanda received her doctorate in Arts Administration, Education, & Policy from The Ohio State University and holds an M.Ed. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in Arts in Education. While working as the Associate Director of Education at MASS MoCA, she served on the organizing committee for the MASS MoCA Union (UAW Local 2110). She co-led the creation of MMF’s Art Museums Union Index, with Liz Levine, and joined MMF’s board in 2025. Amanda is based in Berlin.

Emma Batman has worked with MMF as a Partner Museum leader since our first data study. She has 15+ years of experience as a people leader and Human Resources professional across private and non-profit sectors.As the Director of Human Resources at Dia Art Foundation, Emma supports the values of transparency and clarity within the organizational community and strives to foster an environment centered on advocacy and shared dialogue. She is also a certified professional coach and dance artist, and has been on MMF’s board since 2025. Emma is based in NYC.
