We are thrilled to be working with artist Dominica Harrison on an experimental animation that has been awarded by the BFI Short Form Animation Fund, awarding National Lottery funding. Dominica will be working with intaglio printmaking and digital animation to bring this new work to life.

In ‘Re-Mind’, ordinarily rational biologist Al turns to the occult in a desperate act to win back her estranged partner. The ritual turns into a revelation when the summoned deity unearths the deep-rooted fluidity of Al's identity and desire.

Our collaborators on this project include artist, musician and writer Cosey Fanni Tutti who voices the deity All-Mind and will be composing the score, and our scientist Al is voiced by BAFTA nominated actor Maxine Peake @betteblavatsky (Words of War, Say Nothing, The Bisexual).

Black Rock (2022) - a section of 3-part video installation first shown at @de_bouwput gallery in Amsterdam, Holland.

This short loop is a significant visual metaphor for me, especially relevant now as it was the first concrete visual that inspired short film ‘Re-Mind’ that I am currently working on. I had a vivid dream of the black volcanic barren landscape with a clear realisation that I am experiencing one of the landscapes of my subconscious mind. In my upcoming film, this scene depicts the transformative moment for the character, as they crawl through the land, being stripped of their human qualities and becoming Animus.

This video have been made by printing and editing an edition of intaglio etchings. Swipe to see the orinal copper plate etching with aquatint, printed in an amazing studio @lamaquinataller in Oaxaca, Mexico.

During a long hot summer in the forest, Child is forced to grow up. First her Dog becomes ill, then out of the blue her Mother returns with a new lover in tow. Child’s world is turned upside down.

A wonder through a liminal space with goats, stairs and labyrinths.

In Dominica’s practice as an independent visual artist, she exercises play as the main approach to creating work. Her work helps her to remain curious and open towards the world and its turbulences. Dominica is interested in storytelling as a mechanism of learning and social change. She draws back from the old forms of storytelling – the myths, the legends, the songs, and the cosmogonies. Dominica has been working across the mediums of animation, printmaking, and performance since 2016.

I am half way though my studio residency at the beautiful @wsworkshop . Sun filled printmaking studio surrounded by autumnal woods - dream-come-true for a creative location ❤️
The work I am doing here is a part of the preproduction process for my upcoming film Re-Mind. I am finalising the storyboard and animatic and developing the working methodology of combining etching and animation.
