The making of this film was both spontaneous and a long time coming.
In war, the most obvious pain is that of death, destruction, and loss of a homeland. But there is also a slow-burning ache caused by the ongoing loss of time. When Mohamad told us he would be able to meet his family after more than a decade, we instantly knew we had to capture it. This story wasn’t just his, but that of every Syrian waiting to reunite with the people they love.
Thank you to Mohamad & his wonderful family for opening their hearts, homes, and lives, and for trusting us to tell their story in an authentic way. For meals, Arabic lessons, and love. Their kindness and “sabr” is something we will hold dear forever.
