One wren in a hand

My aunt Didi used to point out the wrens when we would take walks outside her residence this past spring. We would hold hands as she cruised along in her electric wheelchair.

She had been living with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) for the past three years, although the first year went by undiagnosed. She received her diagnosis in June of 2023.

August 11th , two years later, was our last morning together.

I have had multiple dialogues in my head throughout this year. About what I would say, and how I would say it, once her death should come to pass. But here, in this moment, no words seem enough.

She thought the new paintings were soft, I think both of us needed it.

I miss her, and I love her.
