I don't know how much I can say. Mainly because I'm still lost for words. But holy crap!!!!! The mocap and ape work I did for this film is ALLLLLLLL throughout this trailer and film. I am almost in tears. Casey Pike and I put in a ton of physical and post work for this and @halonentertainment let me really do my thing with the arm extensions for my brother @aceruele and @creaturebionics. To say I'm happy and blessed is a MASSIVE understatement.

What a great day for a Heroes and Monsters 1 class in Los Angeles!

The second class in our series that really starts to lay the foundation for creating characters with the Mocap Vaults.

There’s a fine line between being heroic or monstrous and figuring out how to bring those qualities to your characters comes in many forms and ideas.
Whether we’re dealing with the elements or infusing our characters with animal characteristics and traits, it’s always a fun, creative and interesting challenge.
Today our students had the opportunity to be heroic or bring their inner monsters out. Riding that fine line between good and evil and making specific and strong choices that could change the ideas of what makes us heroes or monsters.

Thank you for trusting in the process and being open to exploring new ways of moving, and pushing yourselves to be better performers.Always going full on, full out, first time! You got a taste of arm extensions, and you now know, how much physicality is involved to add them to your toolbox.

As always thank you to our Vaults tutors and alumni @darrenbailey17 and @ohmrhall for always keeping us safe and bringing smart, consistent and educational information to our work.

There were some great breakout moments, discoveries and inspirational work from our students that lets me know, the next generation of mocap performers are going to be ready for any challenges that get thrown at them.

In 2026 we are still told that Black people don't have a place in anime. And anime isnt for us. Not even knowing that the MAIN reason why anime has because EVEN MORE popular is BECAUSE of black people. We have ALWAYS been the trend setters. We always drive markets. And we even saved Hollywood in the 70s (do ya research).

The phrases yall use. The terms yall steal. Most of yall style, music, and entire level of cool literally comes from taking from us without crediting us. And anime has seen a level of success they haven't ever seen.

I often get asked where my mocap journey began from various students. And I tell them "exactly where you started. And actually in the exact same room, even the same spot." Because its true.

My journey into Motion Capture began in the same room, same floor, same orange painted arena as everyone else. Lol. I was, and still am, a Vaults student. And in those 10 years I have been blessed to work on some of the biggest games, movies, shows, and experiences the world has seen. I've earned an Emmy, 2 VES Awards, and an Academy Award nomination.

This isn't to brag. It's about perspective. So when you see some of us Gurus and we speak about our journey. Just remember...

We started exactly where you started.

I want to thank Ollie and John for creating this amazing place for us to train build and grow. And to Richard....bro. I can't even to into words what you mean to me. The ups and downs. Weird adventures. Back and forth. Lessons, trails, wins and loses. I thank you so much for being my teacher, my mentor, and my brother. And for allowing me to yell at the students still 🤣.

Here's to the next 10!!!!

Kiff’s background in 2nd city, his impressive network acting credits and resume, improv, performance capture and instructor is a great fit for leading our students into the world of Pure Imagination and Star Wars.

Our padawans got a chance to explore the Jedi, Sith, stormtroopers, rebels and alien species from one of the greatest galaxy’s ever imagined.

Moving into this advanced class, students got a chance to work with mocap iPhone headcams, a GoPro head rig and a pro Dynamixyz stereo headcam. Navigating a new piece of tech on top of performances brings multiple challenges but this class gives our students a chance to understand what to expect on the day of full performance capture and how to adjust.And if that wasn’t enough, we tackled the world of mime to pre-record and the challenges it creates.

Just Announced - Arm Extensions 1 - Los Angeles - with Jarrell Hall @ohmrhall and Richard Dorton @richarddorton on Saturday April 4th

You MUST have completed Heroes & Monsters 1 to attend this class.
 
This class allows us to connect the work we have already done on character developments and environments but now delve deeper into the physical and technical world to create monsters, aliens and fantastical creatures that will enable you to put those skills into practice.
 
Staff Tutor Jarrell Hall will lead you as we explore the most common types of motion capture work dealing with creatures, learn how to extract critical information from directors and animators, and develop the skills that will allow you to be more self-reliant and creative in the volume.
 
This class follows our Heroes and Monsters series and, it serves as an excellent preparation for the demanding physical skills it takes to specialize in creature performance.
 
Due to the highly physical nature of this course, it is highly recommended that participants are aware of any. previous or current injuries that could prevent them from participating in the class.

Time: 10am to 2pm on Saturday April 4, 2026
Location: Mihran K Studios 135 N. Victory Blvd. Burbank, CA 91502

This class does not take place in a mocap studio as it would only serve as a distraction and additional cost at this stage.

What a beautiful Valentine’s Day for a Heroes and Monsters 2 class @themocapvaults in Los Angeles.

Our students went all in on expanding their skills, challenging themselves and creating memorable characters for video games and cinematic performances in a world of pure imagination..

Our heroes were strong & powerful & our monsters were ferocious & deadly!

The progression of skills & work from previous classes was on full display as our student challenged, collaborated and supported each other to be better actors & storytellers.

Thank you to our dedicated staff tutors @darrenbailey17 and @ohmrhall for providing great support , stunt safety & very valuable insight into the mocap process we’ve created in our program. Their passion and energy inspire our students to really go for it.

We teach full on, full out, first time but always in an environment that is safe to fail, a place to take risk & experiment & this is where we see the most growth in our students when they raise their stakes.

I’m so proud of all of these performers & know the gaming & performance capture industry is in great hands with this next generation of storytellers.
