This is one of the easiest yet toughest poems I have written.

I present to you - Discovering Motherhood.

I wrote this in honor of my mother and every other mother figure in my life as a way to celebrate them for how well they have loved me. The depth of love that motherhood requires is so different. I'm so blessed to witness three generations of mothers and many more to come 💛

Motherhood is a canvas with multiple strokes and what a privilege to experience it . Mothers are worth celebrating everyday.

It’s Mothers’ Day soon and here’s a poem you can use to appreciate the various mother figures in your life; from your mum, to your grandma, to your aunt, to your bonus mums, let’s honor our mothers.

To showcase its year in search, #Google decided to do something beautifully creative, and used fashion to display the top searches on its engine.

One of the search categories revolved around the great men and women death took from us this year. It was my absolute pleasure to use poetry in honor of the legacies of those we will always carry with us.

Of course it took a village. Special shoutout to my glam team@beautybliss_makeover @zubbydefinition for letting everything about me convey the message convincingly.

Thank you to @maiatafo for his boosting charge and hugs, and to everyone who told me how much my words meant to them. Some cried, some held their breath, some needed hugs, the sobriety and joy in the room was evident because we were there not to mourn but to celebrate. Grateful for the vote of confidence and love from @kunmiariyo and @elozonam

To @dolapo010 who asked me to record this poem and release it, so he can listen to it often, best believe I’m working on it.

"We must replace death's full stop with a comma, and continue the story with celebration
So join me to reignite the candles of those this year took from us
We celebrate those whose absence has taught us to make our presence a present,
A gift to this world.
We count our loss but much more our victory
This isn't the end of their story, and as we take inventory, we see that all along there was glory."

This Mother’s Day, we are celebrating Mother’s beyond their motherhood endeavours.

We are celebrating the spectacular ways women nurture dreams, themselves, communities, healing, ambition, softness, legacy, and the people around them.

We are also celebrating the women who nurtured and raised us somewhat —
the aunties, sisters, grandmothers, mentors, colleagues, teachers, and women who poured into our becoming.

This poem is for every spectacular woman who has nurtured, is nurturing and will nurture beyond motherhood. This is to celebrate their dreams, their craft, their passions, their skill.

This is to celebrate the mother figures in our lives holistically.
