Artist Bio

Pear Dropy works in London. They paint with light and language. Digital brushes, camera lenses, words on a page—they all feed the same fire. One sparks the other. A phrase becomes an image. An image demands a phrase. Back and forth. Always moving.

Part of Dropy’s Gold Period—a body of work where gold isn’t gleam. It’s residue. The trace left behind after thoughts run too long, too loud.

Each surface holds the echo of an unfinished thought.

2025

The Last Idea That Got Away

It began
when my grandmother spoke
the name of a street
that no longer exists.

She said it slowly,
as if the sound itself
might crumble,
and for a moment I saw it—

balconies dripping with laundry,
the sesame bread cart,
the neighbour’s door
painted the colour of figs.

I thought:
this belongs in the archive
we will keep one day,
when the war is only a story

and we can line the shelves
with what we’ve saved—
jars of sand,
pressed flowers,

notebooks thick with memory.
I held the street in my hands
like a photograph,
ready to place it in that room.

Then the wall trembled,
the ceiling dust fell,
and her voice stopped.

She couldn’t remember the name
when I asked her again.

Now the street is gone twice:
once in the world,
once in her mouth.

And the archive, when it comes,
will have an empty space
where it should have been—

a space
no one will know
was meant to hold a street
that lived for a heartbeat
between us.

The Refraction of Starlight

Some stars burn out
before we understand them.
A flare in the dark—
brief, bright,
then nothing but distance
between source and reception.

We inherit the light
but not the heat.
We trace the shape
without knowing
who first shaped it.

A name survives,
but the fire behind it
flickers
in the haze of citation and myth.
We carry constellations
lit by hands
we can’t remember.

Some stars arrive
already fossilised—
polished by decades
of repetition,
revered not for their insight
but for how they glow
in the right room.

They outlast
corrections,
context,
even contradiction.
Not because they were true,
but because they were bright
at the right angle.

Others are still coming—
slow, unstable,
moving through space
until someone names them
and claims them
as revelation.
You feel them
before you believe them.
Like déjà vu
or prophecy
or déjà vu again.

And some
bend as they reach us—
shifting colour
as they pass through culture,
power,
translation.
We argue over shadows,
forgetting
the angle of the sun.

Even now,
something you’ve never seen
is on its way—
a flare from another mind,
long gone,
still travelling.

You won’t know its origin.
You’ll only know
how the refraction of starlight
lands in you.
And how long
it stays lit
through the prism
of your breath.
You, too, are a lens.
You, too, will bend
what you cannot hold.

CAT PEOPLE KNOW THEIR LOVE
(or, How to Dance Your Own Name)

Masked in black,
you dance across the skyline
with the poise of someone
who’s never had to ask
if you’re allowed to feel this good.

Every step: a letter,
a vow.
Some names never spoken,
only flown.
Some knowings don’t ask.

You move in syllables
only the sky can read.

As if no one sees.
As if everyone does.
As if it doesn’t matter.

Because once love is known,
truly known,
you do not need
an audience.
Only sky.
Only the body
becoming the truth
it always carried.

And when you land—
heart still dancing,
skin still humming—
the sky keeps your shape
for a moment longer.
As if remembering.
As if waiting.

Cat people know their love.
Not to be seen.
Just to love.

the fox signs with her tail
and calls it art.”

THE ART OF UNEVEN EDGES

You were promised symmetry—
the clean fold, the perfect seam,
the way a shadow clings
to the heels of its light.

But consider the oak leaf:
how its veins fork like lightning,
never mirroring, always reaching—
a map of interruptions.

Study the pinecone’s spiral,
its Fibonacci flaw—
the one scale that refuses
to align, as if the wind
whispered skip
just to watch it rebel.

Even the river knows—
it carves its banks
by tripping over stones,
wearing its path
like a crooked signature
signed in silt.

And the birch tree
wears its scars sideways,
each strip of peeling bark
a parchment of unfinished
sentences.

The fox steps
between the rules,
her paws pressing
half-prints in the mud—
the perfect outline
of almost.

So when they bring their rulers
to measure your wild,
show them how water
writes its name,
how even the moon
keeps one face
in the dark.

You were born
with uneven edges—
not to fit,
but to make the world
sharper.

Perfection is the rule
that never met a fox.

How To Let the Wrong Thing In

To belong is not always to match.
Some ideas arrive
dressed in the wrong season
carrying nothing
but the ache of becoming.

You try to make sense of them—
but sense was never their goal.
They knock,
not to be recognised,
but to be allowed.

You’ll want to close the door.
You’ll feel the itch to tidy,
to align,
to mute the note
that doesn’t harmonise.

But leave it.
Let the discord echo.
Let it shift the space
between what you thought
and what could be.

Not every thought
will stay.
Not every vision
is meant to fit.

But some will grow wild
in the corner of your mind—
turning light
into colour
you would never have chosen.

That’s the thing
about letting the wrong thing in.
It teaches you
what right never dared to become.

The sky rests easiest
in hands that make room.

lift what’s different.
Let it stay.

And when you do,
it no longer falls.
It rests with you.
And you with it.

How we become
what steadies,
what stays.
How we hold each other.
How we are held.
