On the Eve of my last birthday in my 40s, I am feeling my mortality and having a lot of thoughts running through my mind. Another chapter that will be closing soon enough and it makes me antsy, nervous.

I have friends that are getting ready to throw in the towel….to retire. And others who are getting sick. I don’t feel like I have accomplished enough at times so want to do more but yet in contrast some days I am mentally tired.

Growing up my typical Chinese father often told us we were worthless and not useful. I think that has fueled me all these years to try to prove him wrong. Unfortunately he died years ago so I will never know if he became proud. I am determined not to let my kids ever know that feeling of not being enough.

For them I am going to make a list of 50 things to do before I turn 50. Some goals can be small and some big but it is all for fun anyways. Help me add to it! That’s a lot to think up 😅

I literally did not sign up to be a hockey mom….I don’t mind but I found it daunting….all the etiquette that nobody teaches you and all the equipment that you’re supposed to know how to put on! It is a bit of a steep learning curve. 🫠

I recently found myself a bit lost trying to put on Charlie’s equipment for her since @shelbylui usually is the one to do it. There is an actual order of events or wearing I guess it is called.

Once the order is mucked then something (or everything) is uncomfortable. Wish someone had told me so I am telling you now. Save this for if your kid wants to play hockey and you’re a clueless parent like me 😂😭

Only took me almost 50 years to learn that my personal time is just as important.

I always say that it is US that trains the clients. When we respond late at night and when we give up our weekends then we are the ones that are saying it’s ok….my time is not a priority.

Retraining yourself to say no and to put yourself first is easier said than done but so important for mental breaks and health!

We put off so many things in life because we’re scared.

I put off having kids for years because I was terrified of it.

I avoided public speaking because I thought I’d embarrass myself.

And for the longest time, I held back from posting on social media because I was afraid of being judged.

Fear is sneaky like that….It convinces you to wait… until you’re “ready.”

But the truth is, most of us never feel fully ready.

Sometimes I wish I could go back and do things differently. But I also believe life unfolds the way it’s meant to even when we don’t understand it yet.

All we can really control is the story we choose going forward.

So I’m choosing to be braver, to try things before I feel ready and to just appreciate the journey as it unfolds.

To every woman who is still becoming who she’s meant to be, I see you and you are doing better than you think.

As an interior designer, I care about the lines, the finishes, the way the light moves through a space.

But as a mom and someone who actually lives in homes, I care about how it feels at 7am. And 9pm. And on the messy in between days.

Clean lines. Warm light. Timeless details that aren’t just beautiful. They’re livable.

Luxury isn’t about being untouchable. It is about creating a space that supports the life you’re building inside it.
