This was a fun moment captured during one of my free LA group photoshoots at an abandoned bunker. @6bonk saw this circular imprint in the concrete, and came up with the impromptu idea to perform somewhat of a ritual around it. She came up with some loose choreography and just went for it and this is what we produced!

And during, realized one of the most advanced techniques or rope dart - being able to slide or shorten your slack mid-sequence to adjust for specifics lengths for the next move. I might do a video on this.

Here is the trailer of our “Marionette” piece 🤡

This took us 2 months of intense creation process - I think this was one of the hardest pieces I’ve done so far….

Why?
First because of the time limit (needed to be done before Envision, and there were MANY other things going on in our lives at the same time. We didn’t take an artistic residency -noted for next time).

Second, we wanted to made an act that was bringing together our life stories and how we have related with in & external control in our lives. We build from our individual experiences but also wanted to create something universal that people could relate with:

- The axis of domination to/from the Masculine vs the Feminine
- The oppression from others vs. free expression.
- The control from capitalism vs. nature rythmes

All of that represented by the strings of our apparatus & switching the control of the ropes 🪢

Third We were creating between 2 people in a relationship 😀that created a lot of tension between us -not having a director or a 3rd person’s opinion… we got into our first arguments - that wasn’t easy.

We wanted to throw the towel during multiple occasions. We were scared af, this piece was bringing up our internal traumas while we made it come to life.

And those feelings continued…

UNTIL the very first moment that we rehearsed in the Circus stage -on the 2nd day of the festival. We weren’t dressed yet, and we needed to perform 2h later. But in the moment that the music & the lights started to shine above us, all of that dissolved and I felt closer than ever with you @radi_flows. Thanks to be open to do something so challenging together & being the most lovely partner I could wish for.

Even though the “Marionette” was brought to life, we both feel stillthere’s so many things we can dive deeper into 🙏🏻

𝑀𝒶𝓇𝒾𝑜𝓃𝑒𝓉𝓉𝑒 - 𝒲𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝒸𝑜𝓃𝓉𝓇𝑜𝓁𝓈 𝓎𝑜𝓊?

This is our new act we debuted at @envisionfestival in the Dakini Show with @dakinidancers

Inspired by our summer in Europe after visiting The Aurillac International Street Theatre Festival, this acts explores the themes of control and our own personal journeys of how we interact within us with both roles.

Creating this wasn’t easy -
Building up the apparatus and finding the right lengths, exploring new types of movement with new types of props, and living through the process of finding balance in a chaotic time.

We got to see with a new lens the measures of control we put on ourselves and in our lives - opening up the question: how does this impact our choices, our thought process, and how we solve problems? Is there a better way?
