With a track form the Norah Jane & MOR.LOV album on Tru Thoughts. A remix of a classic Massive Attack track. A brilliant new tune from Tara Clerkin Trio. Electronic Funk from Deepsteel. Broken Beat from IZCO feat P Wavey and Gil sm remixing Lance Ferguson. Soul from Jaleesa. Deep dancefloor grooves from Felipe Gordon. Plus plenty more music treats.

Popped into the Rarekind record shop in Brighton today to drop an A3 poster for the Our Connection night at Alphabet and of course ended up asking for some recommendations from Ewan and bought lots of new and recent music. I online shop and use Bandcamp but nothing beats shopping in person for picking up tunes that the algorithm keeps away from you (I’m getting a few too many food vlogger clips right now!). Rarekind is such a brilliant shop and fair prices across the board too (always worth digging in the crates for quality tunes that are not expensive).

Good to see that Mr Bongo is now opening up as a record store again in Brighton too. Looking forward to DJing at their session 1pm-9pm on Friday 14th May. I am on 6pm-7pm if you are about.

If you are in London on Saturday 9th May Tru Thoughts will be repping at the Indie Label Market amongst many of my favourite labels. We will have a selection of current and back catalogue there.

Remembering Ty on the 6th anniversary of his passing.

This first clip always amazes me, as it was a few months before we released the track on Tru Thoughts but he had the crowd doing a dance routine to it like it was a classic already.I remember him saying to me before the gig that there was going to be crowd participation when he did this tune and I was thinking but no one knows the tune yet! Ty really knew how to get a crowd on his side.

I regularly wonder what Ty’s opinion would be on certain events, as he always spoke his mind online.

Rest In Peace Ty.

Continuing the series of A to Z posts, inspired by the name of the A L P H A B E T venue where the new Tru Thoughts new club night ‘Our><Connection’ is taking place on Friday 29th May, we go to:

D for DUBPLATES

I started getting a few more Dubplate Specials when I was doing the Sonic Switch night in Brighton and playing 5 hour sets. As I do not speak on the microphone when I DJ it was a way to get a hype up shout out for the night and Brighton dance floor crew. Plenty of interesting experiences getting specials over the years too.Not sure which from my collection I will play at A L P H A B E T but picked out 5 randomly today:

THE PHARCYDE - RUNNIN’ (classic Jay Dee / J Dilla production)

FLOWDAN - RUMBLE (this always goes down well)

GHOSTFACE KILLAH - CAN IT BE ALL SO SIMPLE (my favourite Wu Tang tune)

CAMP LO - LUCHINI (such an anthem)

MELLE MEL - THE MESSAGE (one of my all time favourite tunes ever so this is a big fave)

So, continuing the series of A to Z posts inspired by the name of the A L P H A B E T venue, where the new Tru Thoughts club night ‘Our><Connection’ is launching on Friday 29th May, we go to:

C for COMMON-UNITY aka COMMUNITY

At The Brick Lane Jazz Festival last week, Ahnansé from Steam Down spoke about events creating Common Unity, which I really connected with. As we plan the new night, I have been thinking about the regular club events we have done in Brighton in the past. When I began ‘The Wig’ every Wednesday at The Jazz Place, I hadn’t thought further than wanting to play tunes I was into, that I felt were not getting repped in Brighton and thinking my friends and others might enjoy the night. This lead to the Saturday Vibez Express nights at the original Concorde - I booked DJ’s I was into (both well known and up and coming). Phonic Hoop really laid the foundations for Tru Thoughts and so many of our artists had a space to develop their DJ styles. (As a side note: I also know three couples who met there and got married! I met my wife putting up posters at the independent clothes shop, Starfish, she was working at the time!)
I then did Sonic Switch at the Green Door Store for over 10 years!

Those nights were all at venues where the owners are independent. Alphabet has this great vibe and ethos too. Will from Alphabet is into the details of sound and they are just so supportive of people wanting to do specialist nights there. The priority of a good club is good tunes, good sound and a good safe space - from that, lots of positive things happen. We are not guaranteeing you will meet your future partner if you come down but we feel the energy will be good! Hopefully see you there.

I played Cro-Magnon’s version of Moodymann’s ‘Black Mahogani’ on Unfold this week. Interesting cover version from the Japanese trio that came out in 2008. I played it when I DJ’ed at Dom Servini’s ‘Our Time Is Now’ session in London recently and had quite a few people ask about track ID.

Of course the Moodymann version and Walter Murphy original sound great in their own right but this works well too.

Really inspiring time at Brick Lane Jazz Festival last week. Thanks to everyone I saw and who connected with us. Always a privilege to curate a Tru Thoughts session at 93 Feel East. Check the first slide for a comp of clips from the night.

WheelUP did a great uplifting dancefloor selection. Dropping a Dubplate of his track with Roni Size (and soon to feature Omar too!)

Oliver Night did a brilliant music journey and sang vocals live on his DJ set too!

Tara Lily did a wonderful Shakti Jazz DJ set on vinyl and built it up from deep minimal to the dancefloor (including a brilliant Japanese Soul / Jazz Boogie tune from 1980 which I have never heard before).

Kyla Kilzer & Max Noir did a live P.A and DJ set. They are a debut releasing artist and a nice thing about BLJ, is there is no pressure put on us about the artists social media followers who we book at our event there.

Rhys Baker started of the proceeding and had the people dancing early.

Footshooter and Vimbai Mango dis a great live session in the room next to ours.

The panels and conference were very informative and inspiring too.

I think my sister took the photo of me in front of the Tru Thoughts logo projection in a way that it had an Adam Ant style white stripe across my nose! I used to be really into Adam and the Ants when I was young.

The fact that the control commands at the bottom of the projection could be seen, was a homage to the fact that Wu Tang Clan’s ‘Protect Ya Neck’ had the time code through their video and not that I did not know how to re-adjust the projection.

Big thanks to everyone involved at @bricklanejazzfestival

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
