Last Saturday, Bubbling House legend @djshaund and I played this incredible Bubbling vs. Kuduro/Batida show for @lacassette.online and @affrfilmfestival . Without ever having met in real life, and with just 5 minutes for a soundcheck and some track selection, I must say we killed it!

I have to admit that whilst preparing for this set I was quite nervous, but I knew in the back of my head that the combination of Bubbling (House) and Kuduro is something that works extremely well. Especially the 2008–2012 Lisbon sound matches so well with the Bubbling (House) produced back then, but also newer stuff.

Were back with another post sharing lesser-known music from the same periods of time and countries my Grandad visited.

I’ve always a huge fan of Karim’s (@rotational___ ) digging (his YT page & NTS show is wild…) and knew he’d bring some crazy stuff when I asked him to pair some photos of my Grandad’s trip to Hong Kong in 1979 with some lesser known records.

Funky, soulful Cantonese laden tracks, full of life, colour and unexpected tones and sounds.

The perfect pairing with some of the crazy film photographs I love from this trip, taken on 35mm Kodachrome and Agfachrome film. Some of these will be available as prints this Sunday!

📸 If you’re new to A Blank Wall, this project is the result of finding 80,000 unseen photographs on film, taken by my Grandad Herbert between 1945-85 all around the world. I never met my Grandad as he passed away in 1987, and his photos were left unseen until a few years ago, when I discovered them for the first time. A Blank Wall was born.

Were back with another post sharing lesser-known music from the same periods of time and countries my Grandad visited.

I’ve always a huge fan of Karim’s (@rotational___ ) digging (his YT page & NTS show is wild…) and knew he’d bring some crazy stuff when I asked him to pair some photos of my Grandad’s trip to Hong Kong in 1979 with some lesser known records.

Funky, soulful Cantonese laden tracks, full of life, colour and unexpected tones and sounds.

The perfect pairing with some of the crazy film photographs I love from this trip, taken on 35mm Kodachrome and Agfachrome film. Some of these will be available as prints this Sunday!

’04 Tamil DnB & Trance 🇮🇳

I found that rainbow font face very convincing, like it was telling me there must be something to this. Crazy stuff from 2004 by Yuvan Shankar Raja and A.R. Rahman. This album is a double album combining hits from Perazhagan and a few compiled tracks. I highlighted my two favorites, but this one is filled with tracks ranging from experimental/ambient to R&B, etc. A must-have, imho…

This is what digging looks like when format doesn’t dictate what you look for. Here in the Netherlands it’s quite easy to find a lot of Indian Bollywood records. Kollywood on the other hand, not so much. Kollywood is the Tamil equivalent of Bollywood. It’s named after the Kodambakkam district in Chennai, the center of the industry.

I was already deep into digging Bollywood when I stumbled onto the videoclip for Kodi Kadura by Ilaiyaraaja. I think I didn’t sleep that night haha. I just kept clicking through Kollywood videoclips until the early hours. Unfortunately Tamil music is hard to find here. With only a handful of specialized sellers, the options stay limited.

I think I nearly experienced that same moment again when I listened to this. This album combines the movies Kadhal Desam, Alexander, and Murai Mappilai, with soundtracks produced by A.R. Rahman, Karthik Raja (the son of the legendary Ilaiyaraaja), and Swara Raj (I unfortunately didn’t include any of his tracks). Both A.R. Rahman and Karthik Raja are insanely talented producers. I included 4 very dope songs, including “Thathi Thathi Adam” and “Hello Doctor”. Enjoy!

Join us on May 3 2k26 for special listening session with bossman @rotational___ archivist & DJ focussing on electronic dance music from South-America, Africa, and Asia.

“NOT ON VINYL” traverses African electronic genres that formed beyond the reach of vinyl-based music economies. Shaped by restricted access to pressing and retail infrastructures, subversive and parallel systems of circulation were built instead—cassette trading and CD-R networks. Their movement followed global trade routes, converging in port cities.

In doing so, they democratized music production and distribution. Lower costs and accessible formats enabled artists to record, duplicate, and circulate work independently, shifting control away from formal gatekeepers and expanding who could participate in making and distributing music.
