There is something about mixing records slightly imperfectly that has always totally inspired and mystified me 🌀 Maybe it’s because of the simple fact that sonic dissonance sounds a bit weird and makes us pay attention. But I’ve always felt like there’s a deeper and more fundamental reason that this tension between sounds / tracks / records is so attractive - it’s almost like it reflects the complicated nature of human beings, and the way we operate within the world, constantly fighting and bickering and negotiating things among us, but occasionally finding those sweet spots of harmonious union and togetherness 💕✨🌈

Last November I had the great honor of playing the headline, all night set @thebasementla , which is (in my view) one of the most esteemed parties / communities in LA’s rich underground scene 🙏 I’d been coming to these parties for years, so when @me.djkerry asked me to play it was a big personal moment / milestone, and I did not take the responsibility lightly. I prepared for months, digging out some of my oldest and most cherished records 📀 from the early days of my dance music journey. A lot of people don’t seem to realize that my OG underground music love affair was with minimal house music, so I tried to channel my roots in a way that still felt fresh and new and aligned with me currently… (it’s funny and pretty dumb how without even really trying, people seem to box you into a musical category - I’d love nothing more than to destroy that! 🤪) Anyways, what happened over 5+ hours that night was something truly magical – not only was I completely locked in and flowing from record to record / digital to vinyl / sound to sound with energy and ease, but I was also surrounded by SO many friends and fellow scenesters vibing from start to finish ♥️🥬

With that, I am thrilled to release the final stretch of my performance, almost 2.5 hours of strong foundational grooves + deep emotional textures 🪨🕊️ Thank you to everyone who was there that night to support me, and to my amazing friends who have encouraged me to release this set 🤍🤍 It’s not perfect by any means, but that’s just the way I like it . !

Hello out there ⚠️🍊🤟 some of you may (??) have noticed that I’ve been playing out a lot more lately, and embracing my personal creativity ♥️

Lately I’ve been reflecting on and speaking to friends and other musical confidantes about why I’ve all of a sudden been feeling the urge to own / actively express this with the world. I think this is because I feel that I recently found my artistic voice

To be clear, by “voice” I don’t just mean my sound… for a long time I’ve understood my sound as an unapologetically raw approach to solid foundational grooves 🪨 and deep emotional textures 🌺 What I mean when I say “voice” is my authenticity – what message / wisdom / unique take on this music and culture I can and should be sharing, and how I want to push people’s minds to think differently about music / art. I can now resolutely say that all of the experiences, projects, jobs, campaigns, records, remixes, parties, afterparties, etc etc etc that I’ve been involved in are interconnected 🌀 and central to who I am as an artist, and they distinctly find their way into both my sound / creativity, and more importantly my presence on this earth 🌕

ANYWAYS - with that I am totally honored to share probably the most important reflection of my voice thus far 🥹🥹🥹 via @__pi_pi_pi_____ – a platform I’ve been following religiously from the very beginning and for which I have the utmost respect 🙏♥️ This mix showcases my sound to a T – pulling from all sorts of my biggest creative influences and inspirations over the years. But it’s also immensely personal, as I recorded it not long after I uncovered some deeply rooted childhood trauma. The way the mix moves from a darker and deeper 🌑 vibe into something lighter and euphoric 🕊️🕊️🕊️ reflects how I’ve been processing this in my own life, and how it’s been (and continues to be) integrated into my voice as an artist and person ❤️‍🔥

Every year around this time I become more introspective and reflective about everything the past year has brought forth, and feel a deep need to process and understand the meaning of what’s happened and what it means for me going forward in the world (yes I can be annoyingly woo woo sometimes 🤪). Over time I’ve developed a habit of writing down buzzwords (isms??) ⚫️ throughout the year that help my brain define the under-meaning of experiences and feelings. As I entered this yearly phase a couple weeks ago I looked back at some of those words and the above were the ones that stuck out as particularly meaningful … altogether they reminded me of what a challenging and tumultuous, yet completely rewarding and beautiful year I’ve had 🤍🤍

Interestingly enough, these words match the musical and energetic quality of my latest studio mix (my first in about a year!) which I’m super proud to release into the world via legendary Brazilian series + crew @goptun

For those of us who look at electronic music / culture through a lens of growth, community, and engagement, it’s not surprising that the descriptors that define our life experiences can also describe the sonic vibe we transmit. If there’s anything I’ve learned through the shitshow that is/was 2024, it’s to embrace and own that experience, communicate it the best and most authentic way I can, through words yes if possible … through music — ALWAYS. 🚁
