We are pleased to announce that Los ríos will be having its WORLD PREMIERE at the Canadian Film Festival in Toronto on March 29th at 5pm!!

“A determined Honduran mother and her three daughters are swept into the currents of the contentious migrant caravan as it pushes relentlessly toward safety, opportunity, and the United States.”

Gosh it has taken a lot to get here, and I am truly honoured and proud to have my first film festival screening. This wouldn’t have been possible without the wonderful help from Josh Huculiak @gardenfilmstudio and Mauro Mueller @fidelio.films and can’t be more proud of Will Quiring @willquiring and his incredible soundtrack that he has provided for this film.

Mass migration has been seen around the world for decades and unfortunately is an issue that is not going anywhere anytime soon. We were lucky enough to follow a family, much like yours, as they endure a difficult journey like so many before them and so many will again as they seek safety and security. Unfortunately this documentary is more timely than ever, in the world, the United States and even here in Alberta as we see increased harmful messaging towards new immigrants. I hope this film can shed some light on what someone goes through as they try to make it towards safety in the global North.

There are so many people that have helped get this passion project to where it is now and Ryan and I cannot be more grateful.

Haven’t signed yet? Don’t know what it is? Well, a couple years back, the UCP 🤡 quietly lifted the moratorium on coal, ushering in open season for new coal mining projects in the Rockies. Many of the rivers we rely on, including the North Saskatchewan, have headwaters in these target areas that will be impacted by the Blackstone & Grassy Mountain projects, and these projects cause great risk to the health of our waterways with the further erosion they’ll cause and potential selenium leaching, making our water unsafe to consume by humans and animals alike. The UCP’s primary reason for these projects is $$, but cleaning up a selenium disaster would be far more expensive than the money made from these projects should that come to pass.

Let’s think about a SUSTAINABLE future, one that allows our water, our cattle, our wildlife, to remain safe and healthy. Join us in putting pressure on the government to say NO to *new* coal mining projects in the Eastern Slopes (no to Blackstone, impacting the North Saskatchewan, & Grassy Mountain) by signing the Citizen’s Petition this afternoon. Please bring a valid piece of ID with your home address on it in order to be eligible to sign.

If you can’t come today but want to sign, please let me know. I’m an official canvasser, I will come to you! We can have a coffee if you want to chat more about this. There are other signing locations you can find in Edmonton & throughout the province too at waternotcoal [dot] ca.

One of the most rewarding parts of building the world of this album has been crafting the visual landscape. The four music videos we created are almost as much a part of this album as the music itself, and using them as a medium to expand the storytelling has been such an amazing creative outlet for me. I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most fun, creative and ambitious minds in the biz, and I’m so proud to share this final chapter with you.

The Great Unknown: Did I use making this video as an excuse to go on a three-day off-grid camping trip in one of my favourite spots in the world? I’ll let you decide. We had an absolute blast filming this one, and lugging a full drum kit to places a drum kit has likely never been seen before was quite the adventure. I hope the breathtaking landscapes showcased in this video inspire folks to become better stewards of the environment, especially as we reach a critical time here in Alberta. There are so many threats currently facing the Eastern Slopes of our Rocky Mountains, and I hope this video motivates people to raise their voices and advocate for our ecosystems.

Like drops of water in a river, the family moves through Mexico with the caravan—an immense group of up to 7,000 migrants that has further polarized political debate in the U.S.

Los ríos invites us to reflect on modern migration, human rights, and our own role as consumers of media.

At the core, we witness firsthand that there is no limit to what a mother will do for the safety and future of her children

This track as well as the entire soundtrack was created by the sweet man from Saskatoon @willquiring
And the audio was engineered and mixed and mastered by @banjoviking Erik Arnesen with additional mixing by Jesse Nakano and @oldsawstudio
