Dance has been my hobby, passion, outlet, love, obsession, career, livelihood, and all things in between for nearly two decades. But learning to nourish myself outside of dance is actually what has allowed me to sustain it for this long. Dance can be a gigantic part of you without being fully who you are.

A big one I didn’t mention: nurture your relationships outside of dance 🫶🏼

Finally sharing this here because some accounts have been posting it without my permission 👀 this moment shared with papa yang was truly the best - he practiced so hard and there were a lot of small details in this that were his idea (the shades… the very Korean dad thumbs up… THE ENDING?!?!🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️💀💀💀) undeniably the top dance performance of my life - I’ll cherish this forever 😭❤️‍🔥

My choreography is usually constructed through blending different parts/sounds of the music together based on what I gravitate towards. But for this, I wanted to put myself in a producer’s shoes and separate different musical groups (main vocals, beats, & background/adlibs) to compose a piece with separate moving parts, all working together cohesively.

I was so close to canceling this shoot - self doubt and resistance were verrryyyy present during this process of investing in my work again. If you’ve been having trouble believing that your ideas are worth executing, this is your sign to just make that shit!!❤️‍🔥 it doesn’t always have to be that deep, you really CAN just create because you enjoy it, no matter the outcome. Here’s to more showing up for ourselves and more creating — not for the sake of releasing more final products, but for the sake of exploring what we have within us.

A little combo for the teen room at @hollywoodvibe!! Had a blast making a few guest appearances so far this season 🤭 a genuine thank you to Hollywood Vibe for having me, the students and teachers I had the privilege of teaching, the craziest assistants I had by my side, the most badass media team for capturing moments, the list goes on! Any space I get to share in I do it with my whole heart and I hope those who experience it can feel that 🫀🫀

Short caption: new piece, feels great, will teach it soon 😚 Real update: it has taken so much energy to keep showing up for myself and to keep going in this wild dance world, especially after taking a huge break from actively training and putting myself out there while being pregnant and devoting my mind/body/spirit to raising my baby full time. It’s not easy to pause when you see the rest of the world sprinting full speed ahead, and it’s not easy to continue to feel worthy when you feel like you’re falling behind and have limited time and energy each day to play catch up. And my climb back into it has been humbling - I’ve put myself in spaces where I’ve felt slow, unskilled, embarrassed, and irrelevant, but also I don’t actually care?! (bc as other parents know- when you have a kid none of the other stuff feels big or important at all). There’s no moral to this except that all I’ve ever known through feelings of self doubt is to keep going anyway; to keep believing that what I have in me is special and valuable, and to keep spreading those kinds of messages to others in every space I have the opportunity to 🫶🏼 after all I’m 20+ years deep into this ish - and DEEP DOWN, past the bs I place inside my own brain, and most definitely past what anyone else could ever think of me, I will actually always know what I have to offer.

Happy first birthday to our world, our light, our amazing daughter Jia. Spent the whole day being as present with her as possible (and running around to activities that only John and I will remember 😂). We can’t believe it’s been a year already, we’ve tried to savor every bit of it and it all still feels too fast. The love and joy we’ve experienced because of her is immeasurable. We’re ready to celebrate and love you for the rest of our lives babygirl. We did it @johnathanshay ❤️👊🏼
