Our POP-UP SERIES 2026 begins with a special afternoon dedicated to Animal Farm. Join us for a presentation with Alex Parkinson, Associate Director at Cinesite Studios. The afternoon will be hosted by Keith Blackmore.
Alex will share creative insights into the making of the film, including adaptation, visual storytelling, and the challenge of reimagining a literary classic for a new generation. It should be a thoughtful and lively afternoon for animation lovers, with a little less farmyard and a lot more behind-the-scenes craft.

Remembering Simon Oxley

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Simon Oxley on 4 April. Simon was a valued collaborator of Vancouver ACM SIGGRAPH from 2005 to 2009, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones.

In his honour, we are resharing “Delivering Wonder: Interview with Simon Oxley,” originally published in 2020 and written by Jessica Fernandes. It remains a thoughtful conversation with a remarkable artist whose warmth, imagination, and creative spirit left a lasting impression on many.

Hello everyone!
Yesterday I had the chance to be a Social Media Ambassador at SPARK FX 2026, and it honestly was a surreal day for me.
I had the opportunity to cover the talks, the energy, and the stories behind some of the most inspiring VFX work out there! Avatar: Fire & Ash, The Sandman, Keeper, KPop Demon Hunters, The Lost Bus

However, the most special part was connecting with people and artists. I got to speak with Andrea Matamoros, a fellow Colombian artist who’s supervising and leading the modeling for KPOP Demon Hunters!

I also got to finally meet Patrick Pennefather, one of the biggest mentors and creatives in tech, AI and research!

Thank you both for your kind words and genuine curiosity and encouragement, it truly means the world to me.

I moved from Colombia to Vancouver to be closer to exactly this. To learn from people who pour everything into their craft and be part of this community of artists and creatives.

What audiences see on screen is only the final layer. Beneath it sits a complex pipeline shaped by problem-solving, creative alignment, and constant iteration. From interpreting a director’s vision to managing client expectations, budgets, and timelines—every decision carries weight.

Days of pre-production meetings go into planning what often appears effortless. Add to that the technical depth—simulation workflows, rendering constraints, compositing challenges—and it becomes clear: this is as much engineering as it is art.

A reminder that great visuals aren’t just created—they’re negotiated, engineered, and refined.
