🧹TIME IS BEING SWEPT AWAY—to apply for the 2026♟️🗃️🧭🪽’HIDE N SEEK’ exhibition that kicks off this coming 🍁SEPTEMBER—closer to Halloween this year and farther from Labor Day—and we’re 🖐️🤏COUNTING u down by casting a 🔔SPELL with prior participant artworks, stars with us prior that 🌌ALIGN now as regards our current thematic sigils, for an exhibition about concealment and unveiling in an era governed by systematized 🍌ABSURDITIES—these so harrowing we retreat into ABSTRACTION to try and perceive them or understand them at all.
🐈⬛AND FITTING WELL INTO—a sub-theme of neo-surrealist practice, something very frequently re-emerging during times of 🌍🩸 WORLD TERROR, the artworks of 🦞Julie Curtiss (@juliecurtissartist), like this one—unveiled in her first solo exhibition with us in 2017—carry the practice of 🧶DREAM LOGIC and 🕯️SYMBOL into 21st Century iterations; her painting ‘Witch’ touching gently on feminine stereotypes and pop-gothic color-palettes. Initiating, early on, Julie’s totemic connection to the femme-representative 🧩SYNECDOCHE of women’s 💈HAIR as a reoccurring touchstone that taps objectification, pageantry, and horror (the feeling not the genre), as curated even those 9 years ago by fellow artist 🥦Hein Koh (@hein_koh).
📜🔗👆MORE REFERENCES—that inspired our upcoming Fall exhibition concept are above; peruse the incantations of our 🔍THEME PROMPT for more entry points into this quixotic new vantage on art and culture today—in all its 🔮HOPES and 🌑NIGHTMARES—and stay 📻(A)TUNED for more artist works that spin the dial to this particular frequency for us all this week, in anticipation of the deadline 🗓️SUNDAY and our biggest, most transformative show yet.
#springbreakartshow #juliecurtiss

🌖ANOTHER WAY IN—to our 2026♟️🗃️🧭🪽’HIDE N SEEK’theme for the exhibition we’ve moved to 🍁SEPTEMBER, just to keep you guessing, is the use of 🔮DREAM, 💭SUGGESTION, and ⚕️SYMBOL rife in the surrealist practice within art.
🌗AS WITH THE WORK—of the ’beautiful Spanish exile’ Remedios Varo (#remediosvaro) whose painting (above) is totemic for Thomas Pynchon’s paranoiac novella 📚‘The Crying of Lot 49’—something that will fit into our theme in an entirely different way…—surrealism sought to 🏗️ DISMANTLE the literalism of bourgeois art, tapping Yungian wellsprings, 🔪MUTILATE the beaux ideals of masculine and feminine posturing, and rely on 🔑DREAM LOGIC for insight into new human truths.
🌘THIS ‘HIDE AND SEEK’—of the artist’s intention and the viewer’s intuited understanding of the work speaks to the unique transfer of ideas in 👁️🗣️VISUAL LANGUAGE, *itself* a mystery worth replaying the ‘Who-Dun-It’ of this communicative riddle between Art 🗣️SPEAKER and 👤LISTENER, to once again inhail the vapors of its uncertainties… Surrealism specifically something *also emerging around an epoch of global annihilation*—the act of 🗯️ ONIEROMANTIC art-making to find answers beyond the material constraints of the world once again telling as it echoes the 🪒👁️SURREALIST MOVEMENT that began it…
🌑SURREALISM IS JUST ONE—way into our 2026 theme, probing the dichotomy between inner and outer—you can stargaze 📜👆🔗OUR THEME PROMPT for more mysterious underpinnings of ✨INTERIORITY, 🪽MAGIC and 🇺🇸MATERIAL HORROR for more ways to broach this era where solutions feel like they need to crawl back inside a chrysalis for a lil while before they emerge fixed, contradicting the literalism of 📱TECHNOLOGY to find truths no data point could comprehend…
#springbreakartshow #thomaspynchon

☀️THE SUN IS COMING UP—on our Regular Deadline ⛅️THIS SUNDAY for our Spring/Break Art Show, moving to the 🍁FALL this year, and to re-orient you in light of these changes, we’re shining a light on artworks that epitomize this year’s theme, ♟️🗃️🧭🪽’HIDE N SEEK’, with artworks we feel suggest different aspects of a theme dedicated to the under wraps and the to-be-irradiated.
🗃️AND RELATING TO THE FORMAL foregrounding of typically hidden processes in the art-making endeavor—one sub-theme of the exhibition this year—no one highlights the method of 🔍💅UNDERPAINTING on canvas quite like 🏛️Colleen Barry (@colleenbarryart)—her voluminous, nearly sculptural forms, approximations of antiquity and personal mythopoeia illuminated by under-painted, high color-value hues, swaths and swatches that dismantle and expose the painting process before our very eyes, all while her subjects grapple with their 👥INNER & ♟️OUTER personhood, physical parameters, and external relationships.
🔍IN THIS DETAIL—of an artwork Colleen shown with us back in 2022, notice how a 👂🏻SINGLE EAR comes to life surrounded by all the other colors that went into painting 🩹UNDERNEATH it—her commitment to illuminating her 🏛️CLASSICAL technique a unique pushing of the work into 🛕MODERNITY, her subject pressing the archetypal into today.
📜🔗👆MORE EXAMPLES of process-based illumination—only ☝️ONE of several entryways into our theme this year—elucidate our ♟️🗃️🧭🪽’HIDE N SEEK’ prompt in our links above; review it by Sunday to take part in the most important show back from Summer and stand by for more artists that inspired us this year as we spotlight a world split by 🗃️DECEPTION and 🔦INVESTIGATION, 🧭OUTER and 👥INNER, 🔍CONSPIRATORIAL and 🇺🇸POLITICAL, 🩹TACTILE and 💭DREAM…
#springbreakartshow #colleenbarry

♟️🗃️🧭🪽’HIDE N SEEK’s Regular Deadline has been extended by popular demand, artists pondering the perpetual 🎭SHOW N DON’T TELL required of the visual mediums of art-making, finding new expressions in both 💥BLUNTNESS that transcends literalism and 🃏SLYNESS that doesn’t give the gag away—sometimes wrestles it back from corporate stranglehold and imperialist appropriation that’s made some of culture’s better turns into mere pat geegaw (of which, on the mass-art side anyway, more than a few from our ♟️🗃️🧭🪽🔗👆THEME PROMPT are listed…)
🗓️SO NOW YOU HAVE—a few more weeks to contemplate the kind of show our climate demands, tackling this tension of 📦HIDING and 👓SEEING in a world shifting so constantly these past weeks, these few extra days we hope helping you choose an angle towards either:
1 //. 🎨FORMAL CONCEIT—and the material poesy of underlying, practice-based tactics, of which, say, 💅UNDERPAINTING is just one of them…
2 //. ❌POLITICAL SUPPRESSION & PROPAGANDA—in an era where a culture once lecturing on how not to use the term ‘master bedroom’ appears unable to critique a very obvious series of propogandized war crimes carried out by our world empire and its chief vassals, to say nothing of the glaring hypocrisies related to the allied countries we do support…
3 //. ✨🌕SURREALISM—and its use of dream-logic the savior of art from middle-brow appropriation that over-inundates for market knowns, using Dadaist-adjacency, gnostic underpinnings, indigenous cues & Yungian Bildungsroman—
4 //. 🔑ESOTERICISM & OCCULT—whose meaning is ‘hidden,’ and how these traditions have their own hold on visual language, preserving persecuted ideas from theocratic despotism for roughly 2000-ish years—
5 //. 👥THE SELF—and its hidden inner-mixing into, and public disintertwining, from the artwork of today, following the old Wildeian aphorism about art ‘hiding the artist’—
💅❌🌕✨👥OR OF COURSE—any other vantage into the 2026 ‘HIDE N SEEK’ theme you yourself find and construct from thoroughly perusing our comprehensive 📜🖋️🔗👆THEME PROMPT for a concept the art of today desperately may need a little help from…
COME OUT COME OUT WHOEVER U R
#springbreakartshow

♟️🗃️🧭🪽’HIDE N SEEK’ deadlines for our 🍁LATE SEPT Armory Arts Week exhibition are steadily approaching—
♟️And to give you an idea of what we’re looking for, we’re weathering these outwardly brutal times by showcasing artworks laden with INNER— 🔍HIDDEN MEANING, 🔥DISSENTING SUBTEXT, 💅FORMAL POETICS, 🌏 CONSPIRACY REVELS & more.
🎥ONE FROM MASS CULTURE—is the recently dusted off final film by Stanley Kubrick, ‘Eyes Wide Shut.’ Dismissed at the time of its release as a Skinamax-silly erotic thriller at the apex tail end of a more exploitative boom that included Paul Verhoevan’s ‘Basic Instinct,’ rumors of Kubrick’s public 🗯️ARGUMENT with Warner execs just before—and the censoring of 25 minutes of final cut 🎞️FOOTAGEjust after—his oddly-timed death have gained significant attention alongside 🗃️OTHER HINTS like this one, that the film—despite its many less-literal intrigues—was also possibly an open indictment of the actions of 🗄️JEFFERY EPSTEIN & GHISLAINE MAXWELL, who are suggested to have been deliberately represented in this scene behind Nicole Kidman, prominently placed at a relevant X-Mas party that initiates the narrative of cult exploitation, above (📺☝️)…
♟️REPRESENTING JUST 1—way for you to approach our 2026 theme via 🔍HIDDEN MEANING, and with a winking suggestion of spoofy 👥DOPPELGÄNGERS akin to something by photographer Alison Jackson, visit our 📜🔗👆THEME PROMPT to find out other numina and nerve endings tapping the concept of our next show 🌏POLITICALLY, 💅MATERIALLY, and 💭CONCEPTUALLY at a time where going into hiding and shouting out load seem mutually important in brand new ways…
#springbreakartshow

〰️🖋️OUR REGULAR APPLICATION PERIOD HAS BEGUN—for our Fall 2026 Exhibition in Late September and as the world continues to spin with uncertainty, we’re giving you examples of our ♟️🗃️🧭🪽’HIDE N SEEK’ 2026 theme that capture a culture of 🕯️SUBTERFUGE, 🔪PHILISTINISM & 🍉WAR on the one hand, and protection against these things in♟️HIDDEN MEANING, 🗃️ORGANIZATION, ✨DREAM & 🧨MAGIC on the other…
☝️ONE SUCH EXAMPLE—for you to consider in art history, is the 16th Century painting by Holbein The Younger, ‘The Ambassadors.’ At first glance, the anamorphis of the 💀PAINTED SKULL hidden in plain sight at the bottom center of the painting may appear, in concert with the title, to hold a antagonistic 🏛️POLITICAL COMMENTARY against the Tudor-era subjects whose portraits were being commissioned. But the inclusion of numerous additional 🔭SCIENTIFIC and 🪞ALCHEMICAL objects from the era—along with the visibility of the hidden skull coming in to focus when magnified with a 🧪GLASS VIAL—may also allude to forbidden practices within European culture at the time, the skull also thus transforming into a kind of gnostic 🪞MOMENTO MORI (!)
🔭WE R LOOKING for your own discourse on visibility, vulnerability, resistance, and dream (🖋️🗒️🔗👆)—knowing that no *ART ALONE* can save us from what’s happening, but that sharing in our 👁️COLLECTIVE VISION of what we see doesn’t hurt that ability for us 👥JOINING TOGETHER and finding a common way to learn from one another and perceive WHATS HIDDEN IN 🔍PLAIN SIGHT this coming Fall…
