Sadman Sakib Esty

Lost in the magnitude of nature, I quietly fade,
So small, yet within this vastness, I am remade. 🌿

HOPE NEVER DIES
Three months after losing his leg, Nabi Alam was sent to aMadrasa (boarding school) against his choice.
He was bullied so much at the Madrasa that he even attempted suicide.
This kind of bullying affects not only Madrasas but nearly all types of educational institutions.
After many struggles, now he teaches young children and cover his own expenses.

🏆 WINNER: WORLD BUILDING 🏆
‘Hope never dies’ by Sadman Sakib
Sadman’s photo series follows the members of an amputee football club in Bangladesh united not only by their love for the game, but also by their shared dream of one day travelling across the country.
This image captures a moment of rest, shared humanity, and quiet resistance, as three members lie in the flowing waters of a river, arms raised and hands clasped above their heads, during their journey through Srimangal and Sylhet.
The judges of our This is Gender: Gender & Disability competition praised it as “a luminous, spontaneous image [series] that captures the radical potential of joy.” It shows how sport can bring people together, build communities, foster solidarity, and create space for voices that challenge systemic barriers and imagine alternative futures.
Worldbuilding pulses throughout the Cripping the Lens virtual exhibition. Across geographies, bodies, and forms, the artists show that acts of care, movement, play, and imagination are not escapist – they are intentional, collective, and generative. These works challenge exclusion while offering blueprints for what a more equitable, inclusive world could look like.

I’m honoured to share that my photographic project ‘Hope Never Dies’ has been selected as a winner in the ‘Worldbuilding’ category of This is Gender 2025.
Chosen from hundreds of submissions across more than 65 countries, this recognition is a true inspiration for me and a testament to the power of storytelling.
🔗 The project is also being showcased in ‘Cripping the Lens’, an international virtual exhibition that highlights how disabled artists and storytellers across the world are reframing the intersections of gender and disability through their own perspectives.

Through documentary photography, Sadman Sakib reframes how we see disability - using his lens to spotlight the strength, dignity, and humanity of amputee athletes from Bangladesh who are too often erased from public view.
‘Hope Never Dies’ is more than a collection of stories - it’s a catalyst for change.
Through powerful portraits and unfiltered testimonies, Sadman captures the quiet resilience of athletes who are sidelined not just by their injuries, but by a society that chooses not to see them.
From unpaid honorariums to systemic exclusion, from romantic rejection to suicidal despair—their battles extend far beyond the pitch. And yet - they rise. They play. They hope.
This project is about reclaiming dignity in a system that would rather erase them.
As Sadman continues documenting these stories across Bangladesh, and expands globally, his work challenges us to rethink what we believe about ability, identity, and worth:
“If this project inspires even one person to see beyond disability and embrace the power of hope, it will have achieved its purpose.”
Through his camera, Sadman invites us not just to look - but to truly see the people behind the pain, and the power behind their perseverance.
Sadman is the 2nd place winner of our Award for Creatives, Zealous Amplify: Future 🎉
