The money we raise from selling the zines funds our use of 35mm film to shoot the jams. I shoot three to four rolls of film at every jam and each zine is £5 — equivalent to one roll of film.

The money we raise from selling the zines funds our use of 35mm film to shoot the jams. I shoot three to four rolls of film at every jam and each zine is £5 — equivalent to one roll of film.
The big lift of installing this exhibition was completed on Thursday last week: Adam, Stan and I hung 33 framed pieces, the NU backdrop, assembled the box of zines and created THE WHACKY ROOM in two and a half days for our exhibition as part of the @deptfordx festival. In the run up to THE ARCHIVE (as part of Deptford X, we’re turning the Royal George into a living archive of two years of NU), I’ve set myself a lil challenge to post something from each month i’ve shot something at NU over the last two years.

These are some highlights from May 2023, my first ever two rolls of film (Ilford HP5). Very memorable shooting @eug_cap in that fly jacket and playing around with low shutter speeds. Also Great doing his thing on the keys - even though he only just started to learn with Tilda. And lastly ‘Harmonica Man’ (Richard) … who just breezed in off the street on that stormy spring eve, dressed razor smart, whipped out his harmonica and blew us away. That was a real special moment.

A very unique print, ‘unique’ because i made an unreproduceable and ultimately very fortunate mistake in the darkroom, of ‘Harmonica Man’ will be on the walls of the Royal George between 10th July and 10th August. Come and experience The Archive. It’s gonna be immense! 11 days to go! ✨

I’m very happy to have finally got that “rockstar shot” of @deviddellaierabass! It’s been two-ish years of trying and appreciating his playing. This photo actually got overlooked and then rediscovered in the preparation for the third NU zine (🙌🏼🙌🏼), so thanks to @sandyshootsmusicians for insisting on its inclusion (on instagram and in the zine).

To the film nerds, forgove me for I haven’t edited this shot yet because the editing has been getting in the way of the sharing. So for now, unedited something is better than nothing.

Before the year is out i’d like to share a few moments of NU. I feel as if my NU-related photography has taken a great leap since even October.

I’m part of a burgeoning and exciting photography collective with @sandyshootsmusicians @ame.dixon - together we’ve self published a zine, curated an exhibition celebrating the NU community, Sandy has wildly improved the light set up with his nifty gadgetry and we have more exciting plans for self-published NU-related work in the pipeline. Alongside this, I took to the Netil airwaves with @tildaallie & @valentinecomar . And in the summer i even taught myself how to print in the darkroom.

All this is possible because of the creative spirit and encouragement nurtured by our NU queen, the whole community for bringing the vibe every time and as always the ever attentive eye of my cousin, Sandy. For this and to you all I am grateful beyond words…
