Umzimba
(Machine Embodiment Performance Documentation)

Anchored in the tactile immediacy of live hardware sequencing, this performance constructs a dialogue between analogue rhythm and synthetic corporeality. An integrated language model interprets the live sonic data to embody the syntax of euphoria. Simulating a metabolic arc, the system generates visuals that reflect a phantom experience of sweat, fatigue, and exhaustion, as the machine attempts to inhabit the limits of a biological body it does not possess.

For sixty minutes, a machine processed live audio data from improvised percussions and bassy-synths to explore the idea of AI having a body. It generated its own synthetic corporeality, using metrics like fatigue, thirst, and isolation, to drive the visuals in real time. Which is cool, BUT, the incredible part was watching the room respond as the model grew into itself. The audience mirrored that energy with an embodied surrender of their own, something that completely took me by surprise. Loosened hips, connected hands and floating feet hinted that this was more than a performance but rather, a conversation.
