Strange Cargo kicks off its inaugural release with label founders @guycontact and @solarsuite uniting under their new moniker, Headhunters. 

Fusing expansive, dub-soaked synth work with pumping house grooves reminiscent of the turn of the century, the duo carve out a sound that bridges early-millennium inspiration and a modern dancefloor sensibility with a considered and tactful approach.

The Mojo Rhythm EP presents four tracks, shaped during their recent live sets and reworked for wax, setting the tone for what’s to come.

Strange Cargo marks the arrival of its inaugural record the way it should always be done. A launch party, on a dancefloor, with friends, at @solace.bar on June 5th. 

Freshly formed project Headhunters will be joined by two of Melbourne’s most beloved pairings. 

@hannah.d.__ & @micalizzzi

TBSU founder and Purple-Audio don respectively, Hannah D & Liz bring their own brand of considered, floor-ready techy selections that we know and love. Having made their mark on the scene through Djing, sub sitting and running the cult favourite @moniker, the pair have become two of the most trusted names in the Melbourne underground.

Closing out the evening are Myles Mac & DJ Possum, newlyweds and bona fide power couple. Doing what they always do, effortlessly pulling from a seemingly endless catalogue of deep cuts and thumping house rarities.

Introducing Strange Cargo Records.

Born out of friendship and a shared language behind the decks and in the studio, Strange Cargo is a record label by @guycontact & @solarsuite. 

Following Guy Contact’s departure from his hometown in Boorloo (Perth) and swiftly into Solar Suite’s sharehouse in Naarm (Melbourne), the pair worked harmoniously on their new sound in their makeshift studio, dubbed “the front room”. The pair recently released their debut collaborative record for Wax’o Paradiso, and since then have dived deep into creating and performing live sets together. The next step for them seemed obvious. 

Strange Cargo is the crystallisation of a long musical friendship. What started in the front room has now grown into space for the pair to channel their shared musical tastes and showcase the local music scenes they grew up immersed in.
