In an era defined by polycrisis, Gen Z is rewriting the rules of dressing with irony, excess, contradiction, and a deliberate refusal of coherence. What emerges is fashion as philosophy: surreal silhouettes, thrifted chaos, masks, maximalism, and an insistence on interestingness over beauty.
Drawing on subcultural histories — from punk’s defiance to glam rock’s theatrics — today’s style turns instability into agency. As the world becomes harder to make sense of, fashion stops trying and starts creating meaning on its own terms.
