Do you know the accessible path to the STUDIO? Watch this video to navigate your way from the CFA parking lot to the STUDIO lift.

The ADA accessible door to the CFA building is the closest to the ‘Fine Arts Parking Lot’ which can be found on Google Maps. Take the ramp from the Fine Arts Parking Lot. It leads to a button operated automated door. The door opens to a hallway, turn right out of the hallway to arrive at the elevator. To get to the STUDIO take the elevator to Floor 1. The STUDIO’s accessible door is currently CMU ID card operated. And we have a doorbell for non-card holders. Once inside the door, the accessibility lift opens outward to the right, and is operated by a black toggle switch (pressing down to move down and up to move up.)

We’re excited to share the announcement from subRosa's Hyla Willis the publication of "Night Sweats: Cyberfeminist Practices"...part of the Palgrave #BioArt book series.

Another exciting work to come out of engagement with the STUDIO's artist archives. @cmucfa @cmuschoolofart

Get 20% off on the publisher’s website with this code: PALAUT

"We are so proud of the legacy of your amazing contributions to subRosa's practice and wanted to share this news ahead of book release events and additional publicity we're planning for this fall: please let us know if you’d like to be kept in the loop or be part of an event in your area. We’re also developing a limited-run podcast series in support of the book and will be excited to tell you more about that soon.

Night Sweats considers the legacy of subRosa as one of the first art groups to address biotechnology from global feminist perspectives. It intervenes in art and life with speculations on plant-assisted reproduction and opting out of “terms and conditions,” and draws on examples of reproductive mutual aid and revisionist histories of alchemy and the automation of writing systems. A chapter we’re especially pleased with is “Domain Errors! A Virtual Roundtable” which includes thoughtful and provocative reflections from many of the original contributors to Domain Errors! Cyberfeminist Practices book published as a subRosa collective project nearly 25 years ago."

An opening excerpt from SPLIT DECISION, Bill Brand’s 1979 film featuring digital imagery from before the advent of personal computers. And a performance from fellow avant garde master Carolee Schneemann, who reportedly said it was the only film she ever enjoyed acting in.

Bill Brand returns to Pittsburgh, in person at @harristheater, THIS Thursday 4/16 at 7:30! Tickets at pghsoundandimage.com, or the link in our bio.

This very special evening, co-sponsored by Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry’s Director’s Fund @studioforcreativeinquiry, coincides with Brand’s 360 degree expanded cinema installation “Pong Ping Pong,” presented by PSI this Friday 4/17 at @eberle_studios, and with the book launch of Bill Brand: Invisible Fisherman from Eyewash / @visualstudiesworkshop Press FAB publications.

Excerpt from STILL AT WORK (1975), made at Pgh Filmmakers from still and motion images of Bill Brand’s workplaces in NY.

Brand told Alberte Pagán for A Cuarta Parede, “You know, I preserved that film recently, and I can’t figure out how I made it. I don’t remember. I didn’t yet have my own optical printer—I think I used the one at Pittsburgh Filmmakers—it must’ve been an aerial image optical printer where I could keep the film still while advancing the matte. This way the circle mattes change every frame, but the image of the students is step printed with every fourth frame repeated four times emphasizing that the moving image too is a series of stills. It’s very funny to be the archivist of my own films.”

More one-of-a-kind effects take the screen, with Bill Brand in person to recall their making, when Pittsburgh Sound + Image, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust @culturaltrust and the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry’s Director’s Fund @studioforcreativeinquiry, host AN EVENING WITH BILL BRAND. It’s next Thursday, April 16th at 7:30pm at @harristheater.

The next night, Brand’s PONG PING PONG 360 degree installation is set up at @eberle_studios. That’s Friday, April 17th at 8:00pm.

Tickets for both at the link in our bio or pghsoundandimage.com! 🔗 Pittsburgh Sound + Image members get in free.

Pittsburgh Sound + Image is supported in part by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council through its Creative Sector Flex Fund grant program, and by The Pittsburgh Foundation.

📅 Timeline Tuesday

Then: Did you know the stretch of Nine Mile Run between Commercial Street and Duck Hollow may have been buried underground if it weren’t for artists? When artists Bob Bingham, Tim Collins, and Reiko Goto caught wind of the City’s plan to culvert the stream to make way for a housing development back in the 90s, they took action!

Why it matters: Through tours, workshops, and even an exhibition on the slag heaps (steel waste piles), these visionaries engaged hundreds of people over four years, eventually leading to the restoration of the stream. They were voices for the stream and for future generations of wildlife and people who live and recreate here today. Learn more about this project here: https://studioforcreativeinquiry.org/project/nine-mile-run-greenway-project

Now: Art gives us a way to imagine a more sustainable world. We honor these artists from @carnegiemellon's @studioforcreativeinquiry by continuing to center art in our work.

Last year, we held a workshop with @shiftworkspgh for local artists to help guide our restoration of Fern Hollow stream. Their recommendations will make this section of Frick Park a more accessible and engaging place while preserving the ecosystem.

This April, we’re sending our fans on a scavenger hunt! We’ve teamed up with local artist @ang.e.b.pottery to create 25 ceramic trinkets that celebrate our local native species. Check our Instagram feed and stories daily for clues, then strike out into nature for a chance to find your very own piece of art celebrating UpstreamPgh’s 25th anniversary! 🦋🦉🌼

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
