A space to slow down✨
REFLECTIONS at without SHAPE without FORM brings together newly commissioned and recent works by London-based painter Jasmir Creed and Birmingham-based artist Roo Dhissou, alongside collective work from without SHAPE without FORM, in a collaborative project rooted in social justice and visual practice.
Exploring the individual, kinship, and healing, the exhibition responds to wider questions of mental well-being and social fragmentation, inviting visitors to slow down, explore, and reflect on how healing can be processed and experienced.
Jasmir’s figurative paintings zoom in on personal identity and the lived experience of British South Asian women, while Roo’s research-led, materially grounded practice looks outward, towards collective encounter, memory, and alternate ways of being with others.
Together, their works sit within without SHAPE without FORM’s philosophy of ‘BEYOND’, holding connection and self-discovery in the same space and suggesting that true, lasting healing comes from within, through clarity of mind and Sangat (gathering and fellowship). ✨

In conversation with Deep K. Kailey, Artistic Director of without SHAPE without FORM ✨
Without SHAPE without FORM is an assembly of artists, thinkers and cultural practitioners committed to making moments of self-discovery accessible for everyone.
Rooted in Sikh philosophical concepts, their contemporary programme creates space for meaningful conversations about the mind, drawing on insights and tools shaped by over 500 years of Sikh knowledge.
In this interview, we talk about the work, courage, compassion and community that sits at the heart of the project. Through exhibitions, podcasts, articles, workshops and gatherings for Simran (a practice of stillness and deep listening), they’re building boundaryless, participatory spaces that support peace, resilience and purpose in an increasingly noisy world.

Sol Bailey Barker✨
Sol Bailey Barker (b. 1987) is a British sculptor and installation artist who forges hybrid creatures that hover between ancient totems, unborn spirits, and extraterrestrial forms. Informed by technologies once seen as shamanic in their power to transform landscapes, life and death, the work imagines fluid spaces between worlds. Their abstract sculptures and immersive installations trace a arc from sacred axes to contemporary tools driving ecological and industrial change, using materials tied to agriculture and industry (wood, metal, clay and stone). Functioning like living portals the works hold catastrophe and regeneration in tension, proposing new ways of thinking ecologically across past, present, and speculative future.

‘Vajra’ (The Weapon of the Gods )
Steel bar, wire foam and plaster to be cast in bronze
Depictions of deities carrying these sacred weapons are found throughout the ancient world. Here the Vajra is transformed into an imagined evolving animal spine, playing with the language of reconstructive archeology and particle physics.
The Vajra may be a creature of the ancient world or a projection of a future entity brought to life through new technologies. Its form evokes both ancient iconography and the machinery of contemporary science, such as Laser Weapon Systems or particle accelerators.

Take a look at our new interview with Marium M. Habib (@mariumbob_studio) 💙
Link in bio🔗
Marium’s artistic journey has been shaped by constant movement and cultural dialogue between Pakistan and England, giving her work a unique perspective on cultural interpretation. Her paintings are populated by flailing bananas and wild-eyed monkeys, characters that feel playful at first, but quickly become protagonists in a deeper exploration of gender, power, sexuality, consent, and societal constraint.
Her visual world thrives on deliberate ambiguity. The recurring “monkey tentacle head” can be read as a manifestation of the Freudian Id, those base desires and needs we layer with social conditioning and imposed morality. Inspired by Paula Rego’s observation that “when you turn them into animals you can do anything,” Marium uses animal imagery and familiar objects to examine power dynamics through visual metaphor and symbol.
In the studio, we talk about her new body of work and upcoming show at Crème Fraîche. Working primarily in oil paint, she approaches each surface with increasing openness, “putting paint where paint wants to go”, allowing the work to veer toward abstraction while retaining movement and energy.
Make sure to take a look!
