Both my personal and professional journey through disability have come with challenges, growth, and moments that tested me deeply, but connection has always been the thing that carried me through. I have met the most incredible parents/carers and people throughout, and I couldn’t have asked for a greater experience.

Connection changes lives. It opens the door to understanding, support, community, and a completely different experience of life.

Raising a child with a disability can feel overwhelming at times, but one of the most powerful things we can do is dig deep, find our village, and build meaningful connection around us.

I hope this talk sparks conversation, understanding, and reminds people that no one is meant to walk these journeys alone. ✨

Especially if you’ve ever found “look for the positives” to be the most useless advice when you’re going through a hard time.

Because I feel you.

The reality is, there isn’t always a silver lining in everything that happens.

Some situations are just unfair. Painful. Heartbreaking.

And saying that out loud isn’t negativity.

It’s reality.

And we need tools to deal with the actual reality we’re facing - not the prettied-up version we see in an Instagram quote.

That’s why I created this talk.

To share one practical shift that helped me move from powerless to purposeful.

From feeling stuck at the effect of what happened…

To learning how to change the effect it had on me.

Not because it made the pain disappear.

But because it helped me stop letting it make me bitter - and start using it to build something better.

I want the same for you too - to know how to step back into the one thing we all want most when life is at its worst: agency.

The power to influence, change and create life on our own terms.

Please give it a watch, like it, share it with your friends, your family, your workplace, your online community - honestly, your neighbour’s cat if they’re emotionally available.

When I looked at these photos shared by the organisers, I felt it all again.

The emotions.
The memories.
The journey.

It took me back to the moment I almost gave up…
and the moment I finally fulfilled my Melbourne dream.

It felt like the day I stood there singing the national anthem at my citizenship ceremony.
It felt like every moment I was underestimated—because I was Asian, because I was a woman. Even though these were never meant to be my disadvantages.

And yet… I kept building.
Not against people—but for people.

From surviving in hidden networks… to building a global one.
From being a lonely child missing what a “complete family” felt like… to creating my own.
From self-doubt, tears, and struggle… to choosing to turn pain into purpose.

From dependence…
to forced independence…
to the realisation of something deeper:

Interdependence.

What a journey.

And yet, I know—this is just the beginning.

Because my mission is bigger than me.
It’s to help more people see, feel, and believe in the power of human connection.

Because the truth is simple:

I am because we are.

To everyone who was there, who listened, who came up to me after the talk—

TEDx… my dream stage.

When I looked at these photos shared by the organisers, I felt it all again.

The emotions.
The memories.
The journey.

It took me back to the moment I almost gave up…
and the moment I finally fulfilled my Melbourne dream.

It felt like the day I stood there singing the national anthem at my citizenship ceremony.
It felt like every moment I was underestimated—because I was Asian, because I was a woman. Even though these were never meant to be my disadvantages.

And yet… I kept building.
Not against people—but for people.

From surviving in hidden networks… to building a global one.
From being a lonely child missing what a “complete family” felt like… to creating my own.
From self-doubt, tears, and struggle… to choosing to turn pain into purpose.

From dependence…
to forced independence…
to the realisation of something deeper:

Interdependence.

What a journey.

And yet, I know—this is just the beginning.

Because my mission is bigger than me.
It’s to help more people see, feel, and believe in the power of human connection.

Because the truth is simple:

I am because we are.

To everyone who was there, who listened, who came up to me after the talk—
thank you. That meant more than you know. ❤️

And to the incredible team who made this possible—thank you for trusting my voice and my message.
