Nobody Leaves the Party
@ten_studio and @babinigeysen have won the design competition for the new recycling centre in Jette, Brussels. “Nobody Leaves the Party” maximises circularity by reusing the existing buildings, components, and materials on-site. Through targeted design interventions, the project proposes strategies to preserve, expand, up-cycle, or relocate existing site assets for reuse. By framing scarcity as an opportunity, the project demonstrates the architectural potential of recycling, prompting a deeper engagement with material culture and its role in ecological cycles.
Designing for reuse demands a different creative process. We collaborated closely with @olivier_campagne on AI models trained on site-specific imagery and scanned building components, incorporating a custom library of shed typologies and research by @maxence.grangeot
More to come.

We are glad to share a project very dear to us. The House for Five Women provides housing for women who have survived war, violence, and social injustice.
Set in the countryside close to Gradačac, a small town in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the project offers a model for care, mutual support and community engagement. The house is based on the idea that individuals best grow and live together with self-determination and shared responsibility. In collaboration with Hazima Smajlović, NGO Naš Izvor, Engineers Without Borders, and the Gradačac municipality and in the beginning with Bessire Winter, we have developed this housing model over the last couple of years. Working in close collaboration with TEN, landscape architect Daniel Ganz integrated the building with its surroundings by planting trees, tending to the grounds, and developing a layout for a productive food garden. Artist Shirana Shahbazi worked with material and color to transform the facade and interior into a dynamic visual display, a tapestry that continuously changes in appearance.Collaboration with local metalworkers, carpenters, car painters, carpet repairers and other skilled individuals was essential in establishing a culture of collaboration and visibility. Such creative partnerships have the potential to bridge isolated domains of knowledge, build common ground, soften ideological extremes and bring people together around shared values. Design fosters inter-subjectivity and cultural resilience that prioritize social impact and collective well-being. This embodies a new kind of design institute and this is the field where TEN operates.
We hope you will support foundation Naš Izvor in a way you find appropriate.

„When Attitude Becomes Form“
Design not only serves the practical needs of society but also gives form to its shared aspirations.
Invited by the city of Zurich in the design competition for a new recycling centre with the challenge to design from a predefined catalogue of recovered materials.
We expanded the public program with generous sorting facilities for material up-cycling. Designed an open, mixed-use hall with a 34m roof span. Bundled, tied and bolted appropriate materials into hybrid structural elements designed for disassembly. We aim to move from simply recycling toward circular construction.
The title „When Attitude Becomes Form“ is reappropriated from the iconic exhibition of 1969 by Harald Szeemann. This pioneered a shift in the production of art toward formal experiments derived from real world contingencies. We support such a shift in architecture as it responds to the need for raw material reduction, retention and reuse.

TEN designs for extended time horizons.
Our proposal for a community housing scheme in Zurich has been awarded 1st prize in the competition and has received the vote of support for execution by the municipality of Thalwil couple of weeks ago. We are excited to start the planing phase now! 💫
Thanks to a simple construction method with a high degree of repetition, the individual components of the building can be optimised in many ways. The hybrid construction allows for a balance between factors of economy, sustainability, durability and repairability. The principle structure of wooden elements and cross shaped concrete walls allows for a separation of load bearing elements and unit divisions enabling a variety of apartment sizes within 66 projected units, making it possible to accommodate any change over time, leaving programme, envelope and technic negotiable for future uses.
This proposal is developed with Dr. Neven Kostic, Dr. Peter Bach and careful collaboration on landscape between Andreas Klein and Daniel Ganz.

Architecture for the next 500 years. TEN decided to design with some new criterion.
Developed for the EBG with Dr. Neven Kostic, our three-floor hybrid construction prototype leverages the comparative advantages of both a concrete and prefabricated timber element system. This hybrid approach compliments the best properties of each structure, reduces material and construction time, and offers unique spatial possibilities over the lifespan of the building.
The precast concrete columns and circulation core support in-situ concrete slabs at every third floor forming a robust 500-year super-structure. The efficiency of concrete to manage primary loads avoids the need for large timber profiles and excessive lamination adhesives. The timber element system is concentrated between the concrete slabs in the form of adaptable three-storey structures. This allows the tower to be locally adapted to meet changing standards, user concessions or pressure for capital optimization without the need to demolish the concrete structure. We are currently working closely with Olivier Campagne and ArtefactoryLab to realise this.

TEN proposes pavilion for EU in Venice
X=(Ефемерно*bewegung)
After an euphoric phase of expansion, the EU faces a lot of internal and external critique. Economic differences could not have been overcome in reasonable time. The solidarity between members in times of crises seems insufficient. Many nations, in its center as well as on its periphery, deal with internal efforts to exit the union. There is no shortage of instability to cope with, survival depends on its ability to adapt. Uncertain what the status is, it is much more certain to say: it won’t remain the same.
The EUP in the Giardini does not stand on its own, it requires assistance. It will not host its contents like a vessel, it rather bolsters on them. It does not just invite the EU to contribute its most relevant cultural findings by appealing; instead it straight forward requests engagement with structural support. Each bi-yearly exhibition’s curators are invited to use the structure as wished, all elements can be removed, altered copied and added, with the statical response and re-design. It is up to their choice to provoke cracks or, if aesthetically required, design partial collapse, if the trees are not hurt in the process.
However, it does advertise for unity and openness in the Giardini and gently overarches a field of play and welcomes appropriation. Much like the EU, this pavilion has its dear idols which spend trust. On the other hand it owes it affinity towards instability, tension, pressure and cantilevering. And chances are high, that in ten years it stands in the water due to the rise of sea levels and it can be explored by a barge. For now, the model anticipates a possible constellation in the year 2028.

TEN prototypes
We have developed the #Avala drawing during the process of construction, where knowledge and information was crossing from lines to construction site and the other way around; informing each other, altering and annotating decisions between the plan and the building.
The drawing is an ambition to reveal main building ideas to create Avala prototype house and make the realisation accessible and readable to all.

TEN DESIGNS FOR THE OTHER 99.99%
Habitate, our contribution to the Gaswerkareal urban design competition for the City of Bern proposed a radical shift in priorities for the redevelopment of the former industrial site situated on the Aare.
Not only did we redirect 25% of the intended volume to a neighbouring site, we developed an open building system to maximise future adaptability and further reduce the building footprints. These were programmed with public use on the ground level, with experimental housing above, connected by a raised circulation to the existing city level. We also introduced an incremental 30 year bio-remediation program across the site to clean the polluted soil, while densifying the existing green areas to support multi-species habitation.
Working with Dr. Peter Bach and Dr. Giulia Donati (Eawag, ETHZ) we applied an evidence-based design approach drawing from territorial analysis of urban heat, water fluxes, existing vegetation cover and health, biodiversity and functional connectivity of various fauna associated with the site. These interventions followed the principles of designing for dynamic territorial landscapes.
By doing this, we proposed to secure the unique social and ecological value and building reserves for future generations of the site and avoid a typical streets-and-plots urban development roll-out.

We are proud to reveal our latest project The Avala House.
Situated in a pastoral landscape near Belgrade in Serbia, the house is a case study on how design effort can turn sufficiency into a desirable form for living. The owner – a local craftsman working on interior refurbishments and domestic maintenance – invited us to design and build with him. The central premise of the project was to include the future owner in the process of making and maintaining the building, with design decisions focused on durable structures and surfaces from local material and construction knowledge.
