When working with a photographer like Beatriz @beacasso , standard scanning just doesn't cut it. 
To preserve the integrity of her work while embracing a modern workflow, we have been experimenting and testing- and we finally nailed it. (Shout out to B for letting us use her negatives!) 
Digital Contact Sheets are your answer. 
Instead of traditional scanners, we utilize high-resolution optics to resolve details that flatbed scans miss.
We include the full film borders and frame numbers for that authentic darkroom aesthetic.
Each sheet is delivered as a 150-megapixel file, perfect for zooming and cropping-in.
While the workflow is digital, the final product can also be realized on C-print glossy paper in addition to your digital file.

For decades, visual artist Justin Tyler Close lived in a state of transit—moving house to house, country to country, feeling a part of many places but attached to none. In 2019, that transient life was forced into a new reality when a house fire destroyed everything he owned.

The only survivor: a single metal box filled with photography, poetry, and love letters.
IM NOT HOME is the result of that survival—a 204-page autobiography designed by Studio Alabama that archives these memories into a permanent sanctuary. As Sontag wrote, photography is an "elegiac art" that allows us to collect the past when the physical world burns away. “One can’t possess the present, but one can possess the past.” — Susan Sontag

We were honored to have scanned the original film for this project while Justin was in Los Angeles. Receiving a copy from Europe, we were deeply moved by the raw layers of pain, sadness, and joy encapsulated within.

First of all, we are truly sorry for those that have suffered immense loss because of these fires.

Thank you for the outpouring of love and support. We have been on mandatory evacuation since last week, but staying nearby with family. Thank you for offering shelter in your homes and offering to feed us during a time of anxiousness and uncertainty. While we are okay, many others are not. We ask that you direct your resources to those that are in need during this difficult time. We wanted to say thank you to our photo community. We are amazed at the support from all of our customers. We also wanted to say thank you to all the first responders that are working nonstop. We are pledging a portion of our sales to various organizations this month.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we have teamed up with Matt to giveaway our favorite black and white film stock and wine: Kodak Tri-X and Matt Morris Charbono! (We’re also giving away a few bottles of his Rosé.)

We approached Matt Morris, our good friend and long time customer for a special giveaway.
Matt works alongside Françoise Peschon, San Francisco Chronicle’s winemaker of the year in 2019, to make wines focused on the endangered Charbono grape, with only 65 acres planted in the country. His wines are poured at multiple Michelin-starred restaurants, including the French Laundry.
He is a huge fan of Kodak Tri-X, and we are huge fans of his wines, so this was the perfect opportunity.

The label on his Charbono wine was shot on Kodak Tri-X and turned into a contact sheet. 
He loves Tri-X so much that it’s pretty much his go-to. (All photos were taken by Matt on the same film stock and developed and scanned by us.) 

His black and white photos are just like his wines- balanced, complex, and crisp.

Matt works alongside Françoise Peschon, San Francisco Chronicle’s winemaker of the year in 2019, to make wines focused on the endangered Charbono grape, with only 65 acres planted in the country. His wines are poured at multiple Michelin-starred restaurants, including the French Laundry.
He is a huge fan of Kodak Tri-X, and we are huge fans of his wines, so this was the perfect opportunity.

The label on his Charbono wine was shot on Kodak Tri-X and turned into a contact sheet. 
He loves Tri-X so much that it’s pretty much his go-to. (All photos were taken by Matt on the same film stock and developed and scanned by us.) 

His black and white photos are just like his wines- balanced, complex, and crisp.
