The Swapshop is returning this Saturday!!!

It's secondhand September so of course we're bringing the swapshop back just in time 😜

If you love clothes & have a few pieces you don't wear & would like to hang out with some cool people & see if you can pick up a couple new wardrobe staples, come along! 🧡

Happening this Saturday 23rd September at our new space in 76 Castle Street @lilfordgalleryandframing

Please arrive as close to 3pm as you can for a prompt start!

Entry is £5 - this goes towards keeping the swapshop running & ensures we have a safe venue & crowd, which is very important to us

Bring at least 3 pieces for the swap rails - make sure they're in good clean condition & no basic tees or leggings please 😉

Everything will be added to our rails & you have access to it all!
I want to avoid making it too transactional so always happy for you to take as many pieces as you fall in love with, there's plenty to go around as I bring lots of extra items too

There is a fitting room to try bits on & we are happy to give styling advice of course 🤩

ABSOLUTELY EVERYBODY IS WELCOME! This is a community sustainability focused event so it's really fun to come alone OR with a group of friends, so please do share & bring along anyone that might fancy it, the more people the more swap choices! We are an inclusive space and welcome ALL ages, genders and bodies so spread the word & spread the love!

Sorry this is so late, I ended up having a few pints and have been busy in the pop up this morning, but it is happening tonight!!

Starting at 5pm, on til around 7pm at 76 Castle Street, Canterbury.

It's free this time as theres no bar, but any donations towards running costs are welcome and you can feel free to bring a few drinkies with you for a lil swap party vibe 😜

If you've been before you know how it works, but here's the jist -

Just bring 3 or more items that you no longer want/wear - they can be from anywhere and any time (vintage, high street or designer - all welcome) as long as they are clean and in good condition, no basic tees or leggings though please 😊

There is no limit on how many pieces you take home with you, I have a fitting room to try so you know what fits and if you love something it's all yours! Our swap crowd is always beyond lovely and it really is an amazing way to meet fabulous new people 😀

EVERYBODY WELCOME AS ALWAYS - ALL AGES, GENDERS AND SIZES!! We are a safe space for ALL!!! 🧡🧡🧡

To Bramleys 🍻

Almost 5 months ago to the day I opened up my beautiful little shop space within Bramleys, and in being given this amazing opportunity I was able to grow something truly special and unique in such a short time. It breaks my heart to say that Bramleys has now permanently closed its doors and I've said my goodbyes to not only my dream space, but to my newfound Bramleys family, and also a truly iconic independent institute in Canterbury, which I know will be sorely missed by the many that have fallen for its charms over the last 16 years.

Most of you won't know the importance of this bar to me, but I actually used to be the manager and for a couple of years it was basically home, the place I felt most comfortable and safe. Some of the most significant relationships of my life began here, and I will always fondly remember bonding over end of shift cocktails after furiously cleaning the bar and tables (whilst dancing like a maniac) at the end of a gruellingly busy Saturday night 🩶

I will be forever grateful for that, and for being able to come back and rekindle my love for the bar in a totally different manner - through the most genius idea from Jack to combine my approach to vintage fashion and sustainability with Bramleys fabulous cocktails and wonderful atmosphere. It gave me the freedom to continue my other ventures in styling and academic study, and provided a really unique experience that no-one had seen before, and it couldn't have suited the concept of what I wanted from a shop space more perfectly!

I want to say a massive thank you to everybody that came in and made the space a success, to every single person that bought from me (and those that returned time and time again! 😘), to everybody that supported and encouraged me. It means the world and proved just what I am capable of and the need for me to continue! This isn't the last of The General Space IRL, it's just a short break whilst I figure out what's next!

I'll be back with something new soon, and don't worry, I'm already thinking about where and how to get the Swap Shop going again... 😉

A pretty accurate representation of how 13yr old me would've wished I looked in the year 2023...

Anyone know what's going on with @asaitakeaway ?? What's designer A Sai Ta up to? Is he doing OK? I only ask as it's been over a year since the brand has posted on socials, the website is no longer accessible and I am genuinely intrigued and wonder if I just totally missed some fashion news about this at some point...

Through 2019/2020 A Sai Ta was one of the most talked about designers - even if you don't know the name, it's highly likely you recognise his signature style of raw hem patched tie dye mesh pieces which his cult following of influencers and celebrities (most notably @badgalriri ofc) flooded our screens with. For me, it has got to be one of the most copied and viral styles of the last few years, no? In 2020 he did work to raise money for BLM, Solace Women's Aid, and The Voice of Domestic Workers, choosing to use his position in the fashion industry to help others. I believe he had complications with manufacturing as well as his AW20 runway show being cancelled, both of course due to coronavirus, but what has happened since then?#asaitakeaway
