I haven’t cut a host reel in 14-ish years, but @hoffstudios 🙏🙏helped me wade through + make sense of so much footage — from my red carpet days, to being in Budapest on the set of Blade Runner 2049, to cooking with Rostam + his incredible mother Najmieh, to shooting the shit with some truly inspirational humans: Shirley Manson, Kathleen Hanna, Tegan & Sara, Maggie Rogers…

Nothing from my days on MTV2 (thanks @theultimateworrier 😅), but it was fun to look back, and also to remember how petrified I was to move from writing and producing to interviewing on-camera. If it scares you, you should probably do it! I have to remember that moving forward. Esp now as a freelancer.

The thing I love about production is it’s such a team effort — and I find that so much more rewarding and fun than writing alone in my room. Huge thanks to everyone who worked on these projects with me. So many talented folks!

Also in creating this edit I really struggled with what a host reel should be. Most are just a bunch of cuts talking to camera, but my approach to these pieces more broadly has always been that it’s not about me: it’s about what I can uncover, and what rapport and dialogue I can tease out. So that’s what I went with.

Special 🙌 to @beauwillimon who kicks this off by giving me a hard time — as all friends should. Definitely the oldest clip of the bunch, but I still love it.
