A friendly reminder to be intentional with your work! I helped @theokatzman demo out parts of this tune for @blackfootwhitefoot @netflix. I figured they’d re-record the whole thing & I didn’t expect any of our elements to end up in the final version. Much to my surprise, the original guitar part we recorded made it into the final mix! It makes me glad we didn’t approach this with the “oh it’s just a demo” attitude, because it’s never just a demo , even if nobody hears 99% of it, that last little bit you wanna use? Do it right! LOVE this song and am so excited to see #thelmatheunicorn

TURN OFF MY LOVE - full session video 🌊👁️🤘

We tracked this song at the tail end of a literal 14-hour day and it took the full engagement of everyone’s creative energy and focus to pull the arrangement together in just the right way. This was really one of the more rewarding studio experiences I’ve ever been fortunate enough to be part of.

Tracked (almost entirely) LIVE at Cinnamon Ranch back in July, 2025. What you see is what you hear, except we only had @joehettingakeys for one day so piano was added later (along with @ericodaly bgvs).

So massively GRATEFUL for the high-level musicianship, presence, energy, and HEART all these guys poured into these songs.

I really like mixing songs in here for you guys. I’ve had some (empirically) Dang Good Records ™️ tickling my ears this summer. Now the days are getting shorter & I’m still honestly stoked to get to do this every day.

Anyway, there’s mixing slots open in Nov for folks who wanna get hang out & get a lil weird.

As I get older, the more I like the concept of *leaning in* to what’s happening in the room. It’s as much embracing the moment as it is letting go of any notions of how you thought it’d go down. In those moments, I think I’ve found the most joy in making music with the people I love.

This song went down at around midnight, hours after we’d thought we were done for the day. Nothing in this song would’ve been possible without every single person in that room leaning IN and finding joy in the moment.

It doesn’t sound anything like the original plan. And I love everything about that. Sometimes it’s best when you don’t know quite what you’re getting into.

The way this one got recorded is partly my nighttime brain going “oh I definitely shouldn’t be doing that, but it kinda sounds right…should we leave it?”

“What is God, when the money’s gone. I’m just asking for a friend. And when you stop checking out. What world will you live in then.”

This song feels like 8 weeks of therapy in 4 minutes and 37 seconds. It’s a velvet gloved gut-punch to the soul. It’s one of many songs on this album that I’m immensely proud to have been a part of.
