The Try Something New food segment now has an Instagram page @trysomethingnew_ob https://www.instagram.com/trysomethingnew_ob . The reason for this creation, facebook posts get popular for a few days then buried by new posts and forgotten. So I built this Instagram page with all 4 years worth of my food posts all in one place for easy scrolling like a visual menu flip book, plus new posts going forward. There are currently 230 food posts added. It took a lot of time transferring them over but it’s now complete! 😁

Benefits of this instagram page is that it lets you save posts for a reminder, lets you add whomever to the post without needing to be approved into a Facebook group, and can be easily shared outside the group (which the way Facebook works, you unfortunately can not do that here). I’ve also put a lot of work into added the right music to each post, so you might just find some new music along the way because my passion is always finding new non-mainstream music. Friends have already mentioned it’s the ultra audio playlist.

So please share with your friends on Instagram about this new @trysomethingnew_ob page. Mahalo! 🙏❤️🤙

I recently heard that Northside Tavern added four new menu items, and they all looked incredible: Chimichurri Shrimp Skewers, Chimichurri Swordfish, New York Steak with Demi-Glaze, and Orange Spice Salmon. I’m not even sure if it’s made the table menus yet but they are offering them.

I ended up ordering the Chimichurri Swordfish, even though I had never really tried chimichurri before (that I know of). The bright green chimichurri sauce tasted like it had fresh parsley, garlic, oregano, red pepper flakes, and a splash of vinegar or lemon. The swordfish itself was nice and light yet surprisingly steak-like, soaking up the flavors without overpowering. The grill marks gave it a smoky, caramelized char that went well with the fresh herbs. Then the herbed rice (with is super tasty) absorbed all the extra sauce, while the broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and squash added just the right crunch and sweetness without being overcooked. The whole dish was a high-end meal, flavorful and satisfying without being heavy. Honestly, it looked even better in person than in the photo, and surrounding people kept asking what I had ordered. It’s impressive and a head turner meal.

Yesterday I stopped back by OB Quik Stop Liquor & OB Deli after noticing they’d added a new sandwich to the menu a couple months ago: the Grinder Sub. I was told it was a must try. It’s LOADED with turkey, salami, pepperoni, provolone, pepper jack cheese melted with lettuce, tomato, onion, pepperoncini, mayo (I got it spicy), brown mustard.and Italian dressing seasonings all mixed together. I also added some jalapeños. Yo, this creation takes sandwich making to another level. I recommend trying it fresh out of the toaster oven and eating it at the tables out front so you get that perfect bite of melted gooey cheese with all the other ingredients coming together. It’s a delicious flavor bomb with each bite! It’s a big sandwich so I saved half and ate it later cold from the fridge, and it was still a great sandwich, just a completely different experience. This is instantly added to my rotation. If you’re going to the beach this weekend, stop by and grab one. It’s good!

I was excited to get off work yesterday and stop by Raglan Public House for their May burger of the month, Mushroom Truffle Burger. This one’s legit!! It’s a wagyu beef patty, munster cheese, sautéed mushrooms & onion, pancetta, arugula, truffle oil, herb aioli, on a soft onion roll.

This burger is ridiculously good. The wagyu beef patty has that rich buttery flavor, and the munster cheese melted perfectly into everything. The sautéed mushrooms and onions give it a good full flavor, while the pancetta adds a smoky little crunch. The truffle oil they use with the herb aioli gives the whole burger an extra rich almost addictive flavor that you’ll want to hurry up and take that next bite. So force yourself to slow down and savor it. 😁 Even the soft onion roll makes a difference because everything just works together perfectly without falling apart. This is just simply a GREAT burger!

I haven’t ordered a BLT in years because they’re usually small and sad, but when I saw one on the Raglan Public House menu, I thought, “Why not?” I’ve loved everything else from them, so I decided to roll the dice. Wow, it paid off because the Raglan Breakfast BLT is legit! I’m so happy because it has now restored my faith in ordering this simple yet tasty style of sandwich. The foundation of any great sandwich is the bread, and Raglan’s thick slices of fresh sourdough were toasted to golden perfection. This beast of a sandwich came loaded with a fried egg, thick-cut bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and a bunch of tater tots. Everything on this plate hit that late in the morning / early lunch sweet spot perfectly without weighing me down. I swear those tots were made for dunking in the trio of addicting dipping sauces which I ended up ordering extra. I snagged a spot outside before the rush and it felt like I was chilling in a VIP lounge section with their outdoor comfy sofa-like seating. This was the best breakfast gamble I’ve taken in a long time!

I had a spontaneously stop while walking by The Bowl Ramen & Izakaya for a quick sweet tooth fix and ended up finding a great slice of cheesecakes. It was rich, creamy, perfectly balanced sweetness, and texture was super smooth. I was walking through the back alley when I heard someone playing live guitar, and the music instantly drew me in. Enjoying this cheesecake at their zen like back patio while great soft strummimg music was being played made the experience even better. If you’re ever walking by and craving a little treat, I’d definitely recommend stopping in and giving it a try.

(Circa March 2025) I cruised through Hugo’s Cocina and tried their Vegan Soy Chorizo Nachos on their specials menu. These nachos were a great surprise. The soy chorizo combined with black beans, salsa roja, vegan cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole, pickled onions, pickled jalapeños, vegan cilantro crema, and vegan creamy spicy aioli, created a flavorful experience. Sharing them with a vegetarian friend, we both agreed that if we hadn’t known, we wouldn’t have guessed they were vegan. The portion size was large, leaving enough to enjoy as leftovers.

(Circa July 2025) I cruised through Raglan Public House for their ‘Burger of the Month’ which I is a Habanero Chicken Wrap, chicken, provolone, tomato, lettuce, ranch, house habanero sauce, and a tortilla. This wrap is really delicious!! It has the perfect amount of heat and super juicy. I ordered my to go. I’m now kicking myself that I didn’t get this light on the stomach wrap a few different times this month. The quote, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” just came to mind. 😁

I was walking past Hugo’s Cocina and wanted to try their Mexican coffee. I wasn’t expecting much yet this surprisingly delicious coffee art piece had a light citrus note, almost like a hint of orange zest, some cinnamon and the texture was extra frothy. The sweetness and the citrus made it feel brighter than a regular coffee, and the creaminess kept it smooth. I’d go back just to sit down for that coffee.

I popped into out Rosemarie’s Buns and Brew and tried the Award-Winning Rosiemac. Wow. This slider was unreal and the kind of bite that melts in your mouth and makes you slow down to savor every second. It has a Rosie single wagyu patty that was incredibly tender and juicy, onion confit, American cheese, Kewpie mayo, and house special sauce. This was an instant memorable hit and I’ll definitely be going back for more.

(Circa Jan 2025) I made it to BBQ House to try my buddy’s favorite menu item there, The BBQ Bano. The BBQ Bano is their take on a classic Cubano, featuring pit ham and pulled pork on a toasted bun, topped with coleslaw, pickles, honey mustard, and chipotle dressing. The pulled pork melts in your mouth, and the honey mustard adds a deliciously unexpected twist. You’ll need a few napkins because your hands will definitely get a little messy with all the juicy goodness dripping out.

It also comes with their mashed potatoes and gravy, which they’ve deliciously mastered and are nearly impossible to eat slowly. I kept the last bite of the BBQ Bano to purposely scoop up the remaining mashed potatoes with my sandwich so I wouldn’t leave behind any of that goodness. That last bite made me realize that next time, I might just load half the potatoes straight into the sandwich from the start. 😁

For a late breakfast, I stopped by Val’s Coffee Corner next to Kilowatt. I tried the bacon spinach quiche and this one was LOADED with flavor and soooo good! About halfway through, I remembered Val’s hot sauce that I love and gave it a try, but quickly realized the quiche itself was already so good on its own that the hot sauce actually took away from it so I ended up finishing it without any extra sauce.

I also grabbed their seasonal pistachio white chocolate mocha latte, and somehow five hours later I was still feeling that caffeine kick, which helped carry me through the day.

I’m still thinking about that quiche and now planning to get it again. Highly recommend! It’s the perfect size for a small breakfast.
