Sahn is the diploma project of @v.ratchanon_
Sahn is a solemn yet flavorful typeface designed to expand the possibilities within the Thai loop typeface family. In this project, both Thai and Latin scripts were developed simultaneously. Features from one script can influence and be integrated into the other, creating a cohesive visual language. While the Thai script may appear very different from Latin, both scripts share a similar repertoire of shapes; although they are disconnected, they seek moments of connection. Sahn aims to foster a dialogue between the two scripts by highlighting their commonalities in terms of tone and texture, while honouring their unique cultural differences.

💫UPDATE Canon Grotesque V0.2!! - now includes Medium, Bold, and Black! I improved shape consistency, made minor design optimisations across all weights, and fixed some drawing issues :)
The next plan for me would be working on the Canon GrotesqueThai V0.2 to match the Latin version and a possibility to complete all weights from Thin to Black, with better language coverage and more special characters for the following updates.
Available now on @futurefonts

Sahn began with a desire to explore how Thai and Latin scripts might speak in closer dialogue—not by reducing one to fit the expectations of the other, but by allowing each to inform the other’s development. Designing both scripts at the same time meant constantly shifting attention, not only between letterforms, but also between meanings and context. What does emphasis look like in Thai, a script without a typographic italic tradition? What does it mean to adapt the rhythm of one script to match the tone of another?
Rather than treating Latin and Thai as separate problems to solve, Sahn worked through the overlaps and mismatches and then created an exchange between them. Some elements translated smoothly; others resisted. The loops in Thai, for instance, offered a specific color that could influence Latin script, not in a decorative way, but as a way of rethinking how texture works across scripts. The diagonal stress and modularity of Latin italics opened up a way to think about movement and emphasis in Thai, even if their visual outcomes remain distinct.
Much of this process involved visiting historical references, everyday typographic habits, and how scripts behave when used together in real contexts. That meant not aiming for symmetry or perfect alignment, but for a shared tone of voice. Some decisions were intuitive, while some were deliberate. Many required revisiting decisions I hadn’t realized I was making along the way.
Sahn doesn’t claim to offer a model for designing multi-scripts, but it does ask what might happen if we take the idea of translation seriously, not just as a linguistic operation, but as a design method. It’s an ongoing process, the project has raised more questions than it answered. But perhaps that’s where the work begins.

Features from one script can influence and be integrated into the other, creating a cohesive visual language.
Instead of concentrating on a specific style, Sahn explores the features that can be applied to display Thai-Latin type families. Drawing inspiration from historical references like the Pong Family (ตัวโป้ง) and adapting these elements for Latin scripts creates a space for exchange between the two.
While the Thai script may appear very different from Latin, both scripts share a similar repertoire of shapes; although they are disconnected, they seek moments of connection. Sahn aims to foster a dialogue between the two scripts by highlighting their common traits, tone, and texture while honouring their unique cultural differences.

While the Thai script may appear very different from Latin, both scripts share a similar repertoire of shapes; although they are disconnected, they seek moments of connection. Sahn aims to foster a dialogue between the two scripts by highlighting their common traits, tone, and texture while honouring their unique cultural differences.
Diploma project developed during my time at @ecalmatd , mentored by Alice Savoie and Julia Born.

Sahn is a solemn yet flavorful typeface designed to expand the possibilities within the Thai loop typeface family. In this project, both Thai and Latin scripts were developed simultaneously. Features from one script can influence and be integrated into the other, creating a cohesive visual language.

I am happy to announce that Canon Grotesque v0.1 and Canon Grotesque Thai v0.1 is now available @futurefonts ✨
Canon Grotesque and Canon Grotesque Thai are a playful type family distinguished by its round-sided sans-serif design with slightly closed terminals reminiscent of the grotesques from the early 20th century.
Its compressed form and tight spacing make Canon Grotesque ideal for use in posters, billboards, headers, and logos. The type family also includes wide alternates for round-shaped characters, introducing a dynamic change in tempo within compositions and creating a fresh reading experience.
Please give Canon Grotesque family a visit 🔗 futurefonts.xyz or link in my bio💫

#tb to a typeface I created during the Déplacement project mentored by Alice Savoie in the second semester at @ecalmatd
Viscera tries to ask one question: What if the concept of ‘Life’ were to be put in a typeface? How would it look? This question arises from studying an artist who challenges traditional definitions of ‘sculpture.’ The project tries to capture vitality and rawness in a typeface while examining the duality of space—if a typeface changes in form, does it still remain a typeface? The typeface has three additional alternates that can be interchanged with its original form.
—
One of the most important lessons I learned from this project is how to observe the ‘white space’ or negative space around a letter. Before this project, I never really understand what that really meant. Another challenge was balancing the weight across all the variations to ensure that the texture looked consistent. It was a great learning experience✨

I drew this lettering as part of the @ecalmatd semester project with Marie Lusa in the Autumn of 2023.
How can the detritus of the present and the traces of destruction–the “ruins of the Anthropocene”–be handled? What potentials are released when man and nature meet and ally?
I based the idea on the text „On An Impending Eternal Turmoil In Human Thought” written by Reza Negarestani. Potential Worlds that might arise from the debris left by humankind. Ideas of humans and nature, about planets and their inhabitants, and about the relationships between them are always being renegotiated and constructed. The final result was a chunky, rounded mashup of an italic and an upright style.
1). Digital drawing of the lettering.
2). Final letting.
3). Initial sketches of an idea.
4). First draft of the lettering with sharper details.

Specimen presenting String Calligraphy™
Writing tools have always determined the shape of letters. We explored strings dipped into paint as a tool to find new calligraphic shapes. By placing, pulling and lifting the string, we were able to modulate the contrast, resulting in bow-tie-like upstrokes and fish-tail-like endings.
During the digitizing process, we maintained these unique features, while developing a simpler, more unified system. The tool we used is now binding the specimen, inviting the readers to try the technique themselves.
Project developed with @vvvvee___ and @luxpio in the Tools Make Shapes class by @kaibernau at @ecalmatd 🌿

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
