Sometimes folks approach mixing with a goal of making it impressive and loud - that part comes later. A loud mix is a balanced mix, where everything fits together. Give everything in your mix the right space and balance, and leave the loudness to the mastering engineer.

Sometimes it’s the gear you don’t hear…
Making things sound good means protecting them from things that can make them sound bad.
Digital signal and electrical voltage both need guardrails to keep them consistent and free from errors. Call it defensive measures.

If you’re looking to play tracks that were originally released on vinyl by digitizing them to play as files, you don’t need to remaster them. Just a bit of extra compression will bring them up to a comparable level of loudness to other tracks that were mastered for digital release.
