Wards That Work
Philly works when working people take charge. We’re building multiracial power block by block—by organizing with our neighbors. Join us! ⚒️🧱
Last weekend South Philadelphians from @phillyfirstward @ward39a @reclaimphiladelphia and @phillydsa canvassed to get our names on the ballot for committee person alongside Ward 1 and Ward 39a endorsed candidates @chrisrabb and @eliz_fiedler
💪The Wards that Work coalition understands that organizing with our neighbors creates strong and engaged communities that can fight for a city run by the people, for the people.
🤝Together, we can demand candidates and policies that protect tenants and workers, strengthen public schools and transit, and invest in libraries, parks, and recreation centers. Each of us running for committee member has the chance to make that happen in our Ward.

When we organize on the neighborhood level we can uplift the power of people’s movements city wide.
Hear from @will4pa, 2nd Ward Leader, about how his ward supported the No Arena movement to save Chinatown.

Wards that Work is bringing together Philadelphia’s neighborhoods to build a Democratic Party that fights for all of us. When we act collectively, we're stronger than corporate interests or machine politicians.
Meet our candidates who are running for local offices in West, South, and North Philly. They want a Democratic Party that fights for affordability, quality public education, fully-funded public transit, and against fascists. That’s why they’re running for committee person in their neighborhood wards.
Let's change our city for the better. Vote for a fighter on May 19.

Today, many of us feel that our most basic levels of democracy, transparency, and accountability are broken in America. We feel alone and demobilized.
Wards that Work is a coalition to build the Democratic party we need from the bottom up. We are building wards that demand more for our communities, wards that do the work, that practice solidarity, that are transparent and democratic.
Citywide there’s a 30% vacancy rate for democratic committee person, but we can change that together. We know that working class people joining together is the only way to counter the developers, landlords and rich who rig our political system.
We know real change doesn’t come from above. That’s why we are committed to supporting what it really takes: thousands of ordinary people all over Philadelphia stepping up to organize their communities.

Progressive working people in Philadelphia are coming together in greater numbers to fight for what we all need — affordable housing, safety from persecution and local leaders who stand up against fascism.
Wards That Work has already helped hundreds of Philadelphians just like you get on the ballot for ward committee member, but there are plenty of open seats across the city without anyone running to fill them. Just 10 votes is all it takes for a write-in candidate to be eligible to win the election!
There’s still a little more than a month until the Primary Election Day on May 19 — plenty of time to get involved and help keep the Philadelphia Democratic Party accountable to the people it represents!

While the Wards that Work Coalition has been mobilizing our neighbors to engage in the grassroots of democracy, establishment Dems have been taking a back seat and the data shows it.
Citywide 30% of committee person seats are empty. In Ward 25 in Kensington & Port Richmond the only candidates on the ballot are Wards that Work candidates.
We see each empty seat as a missed opportunity to meet our neighbors where they are and engage them in the effort to build citywide politics that represent the concerns of diverse working class communities.
Our coalition supports candidates through training, resources, and collaboration because we understand that block by block organizing is the backbone to building politics that work for the people. There’s still time to join the Wards that Work Coalition!

Hear from the leaders in the 25th ward about why they wanted to get on the ballot, and how their neighborhood organizing aims to bring more transparency and democracy to election processes.
