📍What does it mean to truly decolonise environmentalism? - Free event 6pm 27th May

Join us at @mcrmuseum for an evening with Prakash Kashwan, author of Decolonising Environmentalism, for a powerful conversation on climate justice, colonial histories, power and the future of environmental action.

Together, we’ll explore why environmental solutions must centre justice, equity and lived experience, and how mainstream environmentalism has too often excluded the communities most affected by environmental harm.

The evening will include a talk, Q&A and informal networking with people working across environmental justice, activism, academia and community organising.

The renewed Women’s Health Strategy is an important step forward. But there is still very little discussion about how toxic chemicals, air pollution and climate related health risks affect women’s health throughout our lives.

Women’s health is shaped by the environments we live in, from air pollution and toxic chemicals to housing, food and climate impacts. Yet prevention and environmental health are still largely missing from women’s health policy conversations.

At Wen, we believe women’s health cannot be separated from environmental justice, inequality and the conditions shaping our everyday lives.

@mariemorice_official, Wen's Policy Campaigner, shares more in our new blog. Link in bio.

Last week, the Wen team took part in @1mActsOfHope with a gardening and planting session at our Limborough Hub in Tower Hamlets.

At a time when the world can feel heavy, small acts of connection, care and community matter more than ever.

Across Wen’s work, we see every day how growing food together, sharing knowledge, spending time in nature and building community can support wellbeing and help people imagine a fairer future together.

These acts alone will not solve climate injustice, inequality or the systems driving harm. But collective action always starts somewhere. With relationships. Conversations. Communities coming together.

Hope is not passive. It is something we practice together.

As part of A Million Acts of Hope, we’re reflecting on the small acts that help build stronger, healthier and more connected communities.

Read more in the latest Wen’s Take. Link in bio.

What acts of hope will you take today?

Back in March, on the eve of Eid, Wen’s Soil Sisters Therapeutic Gardener, Bernadette, led a ceremony with women and children at a @hestia_charity refuge. They chose a beautiful cherry tree for its blossom and fruit and planted it in a bed they had built and painted themselves.

Before placing it in the ground, each person wrote something they wanted to let go of. A thought, a memory, a feeling. The papers were buried beneath the roots, becoming part of the soil.

No one had to share what they wrote. But together, they marked a moment of letting go and something new beginning.

As Bernadette, our Therapeutic Gardener, shared:

“We all put soil and water around the tree, held onto it and celebrated the future together… lovely, especially on the eve of Eid.”

A few months on, the tree is growing and so is everything it represents.

This is what Soil Sisters - our therapeutic gardening programme in women’s refuges - can look like creating spaces for reflection, connection, and growth.

Find out more about Soil Sisters via the link in our bio.

The climate crisis does not affect everyone equally.

As author and journalist @natashawalter_writer highlights in the Guardian, environmental breakdown is increasing insecurity and violence for women around the world.

At Wen, we see the impacts of the climate crisis in everyday life, from poor housing and food insecurity to toxic chemical exposure.

Racialised and marginalised women are often affected first and hardest, shaped by structural inequalities that the climate crisis continues to reinforce.

Climate justice cannot be separated from gender, racial or economic justice.

Feminist approaches rooted in care, equity and collective action are essential.

Back in March at @mcrmuseum, our first Climate Sisters’ Manchester cohort came together to celebrate and share their work.

Women from Support Action Women’s Network (SAWN) and Women’s Voices presented creative responses to the climate justice issues shaping their lives, through spoken word, dance, podcast storytelling, and garments made from recycled and naturally dyed materials. Their work reflected lived experience, creativity, and collective strength.

And we’re just getting started…

Our next Manchester cohort launches this month with Afrocats, working with women from refugee and asylum seeking communities to explore climate justice, intersectionality and leadership.

Glyphosate is showing up in more places than most people realise. ⚠️

Today, the @soilassociation has launched a campaign highlighting how crops in the UK are sprayed with glyphosate shortly before harvest, leaving residues that can end up in foods like bread, cereals and beer. 🤔

At Wen, our research last year found glyphosate residues in tampons sold in the UK, likely linked to the use of pesticides in conventional cotton farming.
Different products. Same underlying issue: a food and farming system still heavily dependent on harmful chemicals.

People should not have to worry about pesticide residues in food or period products.
We need a transition to safer, healthier farming systems that protect people and planet, alongside proper support for farmers to make that shift possible.

Sign the petition to cut harmful chemicals from our food and fields and read our report “Blood, Sweat and Pesticides” - links in bio 🔗

It's Mental Health Awareness Week next week, which often focuses on what individuals can do. But what if support started with the spaces around us?

Through Wen's Soil Sisters project, we work with women in refuges to create shared green space, places that start as empty or overlooked, and become somewhere to grow food, spend time outdoors, and do things together. Gardening, harvesting, cooking, making and creating.

Over time, something shifts.

Confidence builds. Connections form. There’s a sense of purpose again.

This is what meaningful mental health support can look like, grounded in community, in nature, and in everyday activity.

It already exists.

So why isn’t it recognised, funded, and embedded more widely?

If this is what mental health support could look like, more people should see it. If you are interested to find out more about therapeutic gardening, you can download our free Soil Sisters toolkit - link in bio.

Not all nappies are rubbish.

Our voucher scheme offers up to £70 to help you get started with reusable nappies — whether that’s buying a pack or trying a nappy laundry service.

If you’re an expectant parent, parent or foster carer living in a participating London borough, with a baby under 18 months (or a child under 5 with a disability requiring nappies), you could be eligible.

To find out more and apply, visit: realnappiesforlondon.org.uk 👶💚

Great to see Wen featured in June's edition of @redmagazine 👀

Plastic packaging is not just waste. It is part of a wider problem of toxic chemical exposure.

Our colleague Helen Lynn highlighted how these chemicals leach into the environment, affecting waterways and wildlife. But this is also a health issue. Chemicals used in everyday products can interfere with our hormones and affect our health.

This is why we push for safer products and stronger protections so toxic chemicals are not part of everyday life.

What changes would you like to see from brands or the government?

Earlier today we launched our Why Women and Climate briefing.

We are also sharing a powerful foreword from our Ambassador @carolinelucasbrighton as part of our Women’s Voices series.

Her message is clear: climate action must confront inequality to be effective.

Climate change is not gender neutral.

And solutions that ignore inequality will not work.

Thank you to Caroline for her continued support of Wen’s work 💚

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
